SUNDAY, 8:34am: The Orioles have shown the most steady interest in Saunders and have been in the mix for him in recent days, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. However, the O's have not been confirmed as the landing spot for the pitcher.
SATURDAY, 10:46pm: The Diamondbacks appear to have found a trade partner for Joe Saunders, reports Bob McManaman of The Arizona Republic (on Twitter). The left-hander may be scratched from Sunday's start. Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic mentions (on Twitter) that the Orioles have been speculated as a possible fit for a while.
Saunders, 31, cleared trade waivers earlier this week and can be dealt to any team. He'll earn $6MM this year — approximately $1.5MM between now and the end of the season — and he will hit free agency this fall. He has posted a 4.22 ERA with 6.2 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 in 130 innings over the course of 21 starts with Arizona in 2012.
With Wade Miley, Ian Kennedy, and Trevor Cahill fronting the rotation plus youngsters like Tyler Skaggs, Patrick Corbin, and Trevor Bauer breaking into the big leagues this summer, the D'Backs appear to have enough starting pitching to move Saunders without hurting their chances of contending.
anyone but LA!
No Bob McManaman was telling us over twitter it isn’t the O’s then he told me it wasnt the Nationals either
It’s the Dodgers.. bet on it
How much are we betting?
260… million dollars.
Not enough money and years left on his contract for it to be the Dodgers.
Orioles? Nationals?
Not sure why the Orioles would want this guy…I was under the impression that they were trying to make a run at the playoffs.
And to think Saunders was the big piece they got from the Angels when they traded Dan Haren, good thing Skaggs is turning out to be good.
Look up the #’s and Saunders has pitched nearly as well as Haren has on a cheaper contract. Not to mention that Skaggs and Corbin are now in the Arizona rotation, so the Dbacks got 3 SPs for 1.
It got killed at the time, but that was a savvy trade.
Bob McManaman told someone it isnt the O’s and he told me it isnt the Nationals.
They mention that the rotation is fronted by Miley, Kennedy, and Cahill while Skaggs, Corbin, and Bauer are the extra guys. I find it kind of funny since Miley is a rookie just like the last 3, he’s just pitched so well that it’s overlooked.
Its probably the Orioles. They’ve been interested in Saunders for a while and likely waited until the price was low enough that it made sense to pick him up.
Makes sense, though I’d keep running Gonzalez, Britton and Johnson out over Saunders as long as they keep putting up quality starts.
If a tree falls but Joe Saunders isn’t around to hear it, does the tree still make a sound?
It’s the Mets, Harriston for Saunders I bet
Last report I read said that the Mets haven’t put Hairston on waivers yet.
Bay, please , pretty please !!
I wonder if it could be the Reds? Their pitching is looking a little worn-down?
I hope is not the Mets! They are good getting scrubs.. well not as good as the Dodgers. Anyways they got shoppac for some reason(the guy socks) so theres a chance they try to get another scrub just to troll the fan base,
at this time i would like to see the orioles trade either jason berken or brad bergesen for joe saunders. it sure would be nice to read the orioles trying to acqure saunders rather than just saying showing interest in him. too many times they have passe up good players.
Braden bergesen is a Dbacks already: claimed off waivers.
Mean brad
