The Astros announced that they have Armando Galarraga for assignment. The move will create room for right-hander Hector Ambriz, who had his contract purchased from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 30-year-old signed a minor league deal with the Astros in late May to help fill a spot in Oklahoma City's rotation. Galarraga wound up making five starts for Houston this year, posting a 6.75 ERA with 17 strikeouts and 18 walks. For his big league career, Galarraga owns a 4.78 ERA with 5.7 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9.
I think the Royals should try to sign him to a minor league deal, invite him him to spring training next year, and see if they can sort him out. They are severely pitching poor, and he’s young enough to recover.
Mr. Almost-Perfect-Game
Mr. 28-out-perfect-game
He’ll always have June 2, 2010….

Who knows where his career would be if they didn’t rob him of that perfect game
In the exact same spot. He’s a flash in the pan, nothing more.
Too bad, I always thought he’d make it as a decent back end starter. Now he’s just the guy who was robbed by Jim Joyce.
Galarraga’s career needs CPR… Anybody know of someone to help Armando out?
Will this man ever be perfect?
Maybe the Dodgers should sign him for some extra pitching depth in September. They’ve had some luck in the past with bringing players back from the dead.
Hector!!!!
I know Galarraga hasn’t been great, but can you really afford to let him go when you have Jordan Lyles in your rotation?
At least Lyles is only 21 and should get better. He probably should still be AA or AAA. He was just rushed. Galarraga has zero upside.
Noo. Lyles had already shown he was past the point of AA. AAA is probably where he needs to be. But what brought about his regression is shocking. seeing how every scouting report on him was that the guy knew how to pitch, and had great mound presence. so it’s suprising He’s regressed this far given some of his intagibles.
Not saying he’s not a good prospect, but the Astros have made clear their position that they care about improving their record this season to a respectable level and relying on 21 year old pitchers who are struggling is not the way to do it.
Next up, the Asian and Mexican leagues.
When the worst team in baseball tells you no, I think it’s about time to find a new profession.
Galarraga’s fastball tops out at 88 mph and most times he’s around 86 mph……plus he lacks control. Good guy, but I think washed up as a major league pitcher unless he learns to rope in his control.
Maybe Jim Joyce can come save his career
