The Yankees designated outfielder Darnell McDonald for assignment, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch reports (on Twitter). The move creates roster space for C.C. Sabathia, who starts tonight against the Blue Jays.
The Yankees claimed McDonald off of waivers from the Red Sox 13 days ago. He has a .205/.297/.352 batting line in 103 total plate appearances this year and owns a .246/.312/.394 line in six MLB seasons.
Hopefully they put his dreads on ice before it was too late.
So much for the haircut.
Hahahaha I hope the Haircut was free!
Next stop.. Baltimore! Let’s make a McDonald sighting all across the AL East this season..
ESPECIALLY when he’s playing the Red Sox. They could use any advantage they can get.
Describing Darnell McDonald as an “advantage” in any context is a very bad joke
he played for baltimore many years ago. just needs to join the blue jays to complete the circuit. he’s like eric hinske except without the magical timing to join when his teams reached the WS.
and talent. Hinskie was a big piece of the Yankees bench in 2009.
.246 lifetime in MLB……. that is not too bad for a 4th or 5th OF’er. Some team like the Padres or Rockies might want to give him a 10-day look see.
It is bad for someone drafted in the 1st round.
Unless he was drafted first overall, it isn’t really that bad. Heck Matt Bush wishes he had been able to waste a team’s roster spot for as long as McDonald did
26th pick, and only 7 players ahead of him became all stars. Wasn’t a great pick, but wasn’t a bad pick. So many late first rounders never make it.
I definitely don’t think the Padres want him.
Those poor dreadlocks, cut off so that Darnell could spend 13 days with the Yankees. lol
Everyone knows Cashman signed him to spite the Red Sox… I mean 2 starts in the 3 game series That weekend?
Why? It helped Boston anyway? who would know better than the Sox that he will swing at any off speed pitch in the dirt, as well as a FB in his eyes?
i don’t why the yankees even claimed darnell McDonald off waivers to begin with. darnell McDonald started out in the orioles organization. he has never been that great of a player.
