The Orioles have designated Steve Pearce for assignment, according to Dan Connolly of The Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). Infielder Omar Quintanilla has been added to the 25-man roster in a related move.
Baltimore acquired the first baseman from the Yankees in exchange for cash considerations on June 2nd. The once highly-regarded Pirates prospect posted a .254/.321/.437 slash line in 83 plate appearances for the O’s this year.
Boooooooooooo! Booooooo to you Duquette! Booooooo!
Pearce wasn’t the best outfielder in the world, but he could hit. Well at least in the short period of time I saw him. However, to DFA Pearce and not DFA Chavez???!!!??? Booooooooooo!!!
It’s been awhile since I have boooed!!!!!!!!!!!! Boooo to Duquette!!!! BOOOOOO!!!
Pearce’s outfield defense is bad enough that he’s been below replacement level this year. Chavez shouldn’t be a starter, but he makes a lot more sense as a 4th outfielder / defensive replacement (since Davis – Jones – Markakis seems to be our main OF), since he’s a plus defender. I’m a bit disappointed though that he didn’t get regular at bats at first, ahead of Reynolds for example.
Totally the wrong move to make. Should have been Tolleson.
Especially since Tolleson is a middle infielder as well. What the heck is the purpose of keeping Tolleson and Quintanilla?
probably cause both flaherty and quintanilla are bad against LHP. hopefully this means we’re gonna try to trade Betemit (whose splits are also horrible against LHP) because otherwise, we’ll have 3 infielders who are basically exclusively useful against RHP.
I know you will all disagree, but I think the Pirates should claim him and designate Oscar Tejeda for assignment.
Really? I agree that was dumb. He had a solid line. Especially vs Lefties .294/ .342/ .618
