11:20am: The Brewers aren't in on Shoppach, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports (on Twitter).
8:21am: The Nationals and Brewers have interest in Red Sox catcher Kelly Shoppach, tweets Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. The 32-year-old backstop has performed well as Jarrod Saltalamacchia's backup, hitting .261/.343/.513 in 136 plate appearances. Shoppach has about $470K remaining on his contract this year.

This makes absolutely no sense for the Brewers.
stpaultim
Why on Earth would the Brewers need three catchers?
twitter_wiscsportstalk
They just signed Humberto Quintara too.
SixtoLezcano
The Brewers are not interested in Kelly Shoppach…
mgsports
I second that because they wouldn’t have given up on Kottreas and would had to sent down Maldonado back to Triple-A.
Justin
Yeah, um… Do some research before you post. They never sent Maldonado back to triple A
Greg Kamm
maybe it’ll be part of a 3 team trade for MICHAEL MORSE. wishful thinking
Sully65
If Sox get get Michael Morse and only give up Shoppach … Ben will have done good
Mike Boyer
trade him bring up lavarnway
daveineg
Unless the Brewers have a deal pending involving Maldonado, it makes zero sense that they’d be interested in Shoppach.
andyr
Unless they have some super bright Idea to put Shop at first… even if that is the plan i still don’t get it…
daveineg
Brewers are pretty well fortified at first with Hart. They have no use for Shoppach.
andyr
and Hunter Morris comin up soon, i don’t know why they were ever in the same sentence as Shoppach.
Jim McGrath
Perhaps its Shop, Ross, Beckett and some cash for Morse and a prospect.
Fizzzay
Um, why the Brewers?
Casey Roshek
If the brewers do this it wouldnt make sense because Maldonado has better numbers than Shoppach and he is probably better defensively
Colin Martin
Shoppach is great defensively, possibly the best in AL East
Casey Roshek
So is Maldonado he has a great arm and he lets nothing get by him
Now its saying the brewers aren’t interested
BoSoXaddict
Lavarnway needs to get called up. Trade Shoppach for whoever.
AaronAngst
I think he’s talking about the guys at Sam Adams when he mentions “Brewers.” Shoppach looks like he could roll a keg with ease.
Dylan Zane
I know the red sox and yankees don’t generally make trades, but the yankees need someone that can hit a little behind the dish.
karkat
“don’t generally” is putting it lightly. It would never happen.
Natsfan89
Please make this happen Rizzo. Flores and Leon are terrible.
