There were lots of major moves prior to this afternoon's trade deadline, but here's a recap of the day's smaller transactions…
- The Phillies sold catcher Tuffy Gosewisch to the Blue Jays, reports Matt Gelb of The Philadelphia Inquirer (on Twitter). Toronto is currently without J.P. Arencibia and top catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud due to injuries. The 28-year-old Gosewisch hit .192/.241/.310 in 228 plate appearances for Philadelphia's Triple-A affiliate this season.
He’s not a Tuffy out.
That kid’s got a great name at least.
Anthony Gose’s German cousin?
who’s white
Two Gose’s that got away (from Amaro)?
He was downright BELOVED in Lehigh Valley.
I believe this is past the trade deadline…
He just wouldn’t be eligible for post season play.
That would be the Aug 31 waiver trade deadline.
I’m fairly certain you can still make trades right now (not waiver wire deals). However, those players involved are not eligible for post season play.
It’s not something I would expect with MLB players, but it being practical for filling out a minor league roster (as with Gosewich).
Nope. All players must clear waivers to be traded now. Come Sept 1, any traded players would not be post-season eligible.
The latest post on August trades clarified this for me. You can still “trade” guys who aren’t on the 40 man – more of a practical thing for minor league depth.
With Chipper retiring, a player with a name like Tuffy was needed in the bigs
Yes a Person aquired before September 1st is still allowed on Post season roster.
