The Diamondbacks and Tigers have discussed a trade involving Stephen Drew and Jhonny Peralta according to Jack Magruder of FOXSportsArizona.com. The deal was characterized as a "long shot," however.
Detroit is one of several teams who have expressed interest in Drew. The 29-year-old has hit just .214/.274/.286 in 62 plate appearances after coming back from his ankle injury and will become a free agent after the season. Peralta, 30, owns a .271/.337/.415 batting line in 333 plate appearances this year. His contract includes a $6MM club option ($500K buyout) for 2013.

Get Upton in there and make it a real longshot
Dodgersarelife
Throw in Sherzter and you got a deal. Boy arizona wishes they had that one back.
EightMileCats
Ha… If all it took was Peralta and Scherzer for Drew and Upton, any gm wouldve done that instantly
Dodgersarelife
your right. lol
Grant Harrigan
What about his right?
Dodgersarelife
This is what is wrong with the new disqus system. I make a simple comment in agreement and get 4 down. Wow people must hate me here…
vtadave
Wasn’t me, but I think people just like to give a “down” just to make themselves feel better.
Dodgersarelife
Good point, whatever people can do to make them selves happy these days I’m ok with it,
Jason Schiffman
Ian Kennedy, Dan Hudson, and David Holmberg>>>>>> Scherzer and Schlereth.
EightMileCats
Any reliever is better than Schlereth…
Robert McKee II
I wouldn’t do it even if they threw in Roberts..
wrestlingcritic
I’d do it if they threw in Roberts definitely but not for just Drew
EightMileCats
I don’t understand this for Detroit. Drew is gone after the year… Not hitting as well as Peralta this year. There’d have to be more than a straight swap
Jeff Westcott
What’s to discuss? Why on earth would the Tigers want any part of this?
Rob Muter
Peralta and Drew are both FA’s after the season is over, if their options are not picked up. Peralta’s option is for $6mm, while Drew’s is $10mm. They are similar hitters, with Drew being better defensively. The Dbacks cannot afford Drew at $10mm, but they can afford Peralta at $6mm, because he is better than any other SS option on the FA market this off-season. The Tigers CAN afford Drew at $10mm, and they wouldn’t have to worry about SS next year. This trade makes no sense to the Tigers this season if Roberts or a SP isn’t somehow included in the deal, but even if the deal is Peralta and a prospect for Roberts and Drew, it is worth it, and would be an upgrade to their existing options.
Rob Muter
Also, some view Peralta as a 3B, so the Dbacks could put him there.
snapcase8p
I wouldn’t mind Drew but it makes no sense straight up because we’re already light in the RH hitting dept. Getting Drew to play 2b or sliding Peralta over would be fine but straight up makes no sense. His defense wouldn’t be that big of an upgrade over the weakness it would create to LH pitching.
Jason Crawford
Turner/Peralta/Boesch/Rabum for Upton/Roberts/Drew
EightMileCats
I’ll take some of whatever you’re drinking…
At this point, you’d prob have to give someone a prospect to take Raburn
vtadave
Dbacks would at least have to add Skaggs to get Raburn thrown in there.
dbacknation
Skaggs? Lmao. Youre nuts. Not getting our top prospect.
ImperialStout
Ha! Well played.
Brandon
Doesn’t make any sense. Doesn’t fill a need at all. Now if there’s something else in the works like a Roberts or Bloomquist then maybe.
Alex K.
How about Aaron Hill? Nobody’s talking about him.
Michael 22
For half a second, I thought it was going to say J.D. Drew. Whew!
Hoosierdaddy92
If the Tigers included a midlevel prospect and the DBacks included Joe Saunders plus a second baseman like Roberts/Bloomquist/McDonald, I’d be all for it.
Rob Muter
lol you thinking the Dbacks would trade Drew, Roberts, AND Saunders for Peralta and a midlevel prospect
Rob Muter
Jhonny Peralta and a low level prospect should be enough to get Roberts and Drew.
