The Rockies have signed supplemental first round selection Eddie Butler for $1MM, reports Jim Callis of Baseball America. Slot money for the pick was approximately $1.11MM. Butler, a right-handed pitcher out of Radford, was selected with the compensation pick Colorado received for Mark Ellis, #46 overall.

Eddie Butler experienced success this season and has a big arm but was an overdraft (breaking pitches underwhelming), something the Rockies often (but not always) are guilty of in the early rounds.
Butler profiles as a reliever. If he becomes a very good one, then maybe this pick makes sense.

Good pick by the Rockies and glad he signed early. This kid is a good one. Fastball is a plus pitch, slider has a chance to be very good. Nice work Colorado.
