Here's the latest out of baseball's two West divisions…
- Bobby Abreu had other offers before choosing to sign with the Dodgers, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com (on Twitter). He liked the idea of returning to the NL and knows manager Don Mattingly from his time with the Yankees.
- The Giants offered Travis Ishikawa a minor league contract to return during the offseason, but he signed with the Brewers because they offered a better opportunity to Hank Schulman of The San Francisco Chronicle. Mat Gamel's injury opened the door for Ishikawa to play everyday.
- Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports speculates (on Twitter) that Mark Trumbo of the Angels would be a good fit for the Blue Jays. He says it's hard to see Toronto trading a reliever while Sergio Santos is still on the DL, however.
Jays already have a trumbo, he just bats left handed.
Morales would be a MUCH better fit.
EE to 1B, Morales DH, Lind trade or bench
Is Jon Paul Morosi nuts? WHY in the world would the Angels trade Trumbo AT ALL, let alone a relief pitcher? NUTS!
they have no place to play him. he looks worse than cabrera at 3B
What are you talking about? LF-Trout, CF-Bourjos, RF-Trumbo in 2013. If ANY of those three leave because of that stupid Wells trade, Dipoto might as well re-sign, and Reagins should move to another country.
Like Canada?
Trumbo in RF would be comical.
I had to unfollow Morosi on Twitter because everything was Tigers-centric. Even if he talks about another team, it’s either a former Tiger or the Tigers opponent.
Jayson Stark is like this with the Phils
No way the angels are trading trumbo… one of the few bats that can still produce in that line up…if they really needed a trade i see bourjos going for a reliever.. since they have trout and lets face it… you dont want bourjos and trout both in outfield in years to come… u want power from those spots on line up.
NO WAY any of Trout, Bourjos, Trumbo get traded PERIOD. If that Wells trade makes the Angels trade one of them, that trade will have grown even more monstrous!
Bourjos for a reliever is worse than Trumbo for a reliever.
Factoring in the fact that Bourjos plays CF very well and assuming that he breaks out of this slump, he’s a significantly better player than Trumbo is.
You can get more than a reliever for Mark Trumbo. That’s craziness.
apparently the giants offered hank schulman a better contract than they offered travis ishikawa…?
If Ishikawa doesn’t remember how to hit, he’s going to open the door to playing everyday in AAA.
Then again, if the Jays keep pitching SHO on the Angels, the Jays have no use for relievers.
anyone who thinks the angels should trade trumbo is on the express train to crazy town. the have relics on the team who will be on their way out… ala abreu. morales, trout, trumbo, and bourjos are the future. they have their rotation locked up (although santana should be in his way out). ervin santana should be the guy getting shopped. now, if dipoto is on the train to crazy town, wouldn’t the better fit be the dodgers?? they actually have depth in the pen albeit not at the back end and they need a 1b badly… loney is crap. did i mention the dodgers are in the nl?
I’d be happy if the Jays traded for Ervin Santana.
what can they realisticaly get for trumbo?/
he’s essentially a position less player. He does have power, and his obp could get better. but even still as it stands, how much could a young 1B/DH realistically fetch?
Trade partners are limited to AL teams, assuming they don’t want to trade within the division (texas would be the most logical spot for him)
They are then limited to the East and Central. because of all those factors I can’t see more than a late inning arm + B prospect.
Why are trade partners limited to AL teams? Trumbo was a plus defender at first base last season, so I’m not really sure why he couldn’t be an excellent fit with a club like the Pirates.
you know what, you’re right.
Can they get more if they trade Bourjos?
Considering how bad he’s been offensively this season it’s doubtful. Yes he’s young and has potential but that’s still not going to get more than a semi-decent relief pitcher.
If Bourjos was a proven lead-off guy then yes they would have more power.
But a Power hitter than may be able to be hidden at 1st or even at DH and hit 30 and knock in 100 will always have more value than a Cf + defensive guy who has little pop and has yet to prove he can lead off everyday.Do not get me wrong I would love to have both these guy on the Cleveland Indians and the indians may be one of the few teams that are a fit for Trumbo. The Indians have one of if not the best overall bullpen depth in all of baseball for 3 years now and they have 2 openings that Trumbo could slide into #1 ( 1st base Kotchman is a defensive guy only and laporta failed in 2 different trials at making it in the majors ) #2 DH Hafner is at the end of the line with the Indians his contract is up after this year and he will not be back ).I believe any Trunbo trade unless it involved a closer Chris Perez + another top relieve guy would have to invole a top 5 prospect to walk away with Trumbo.I can tell you that the Indians untouchable seem to be Hagadone and Pestano those 2 guys will not be going anywhere. The Angles always trying to fill the 3rd base slot may want to try and fill 2 needs by trying to pry Chisenhall Top Prospect or Hannahan scorching hit right now + Joe Smith + in a deal for Trumbo. There are very few teams because of lack of position as far as Trumbo goes that would take him on IHMO the Indians would have to be at the top of that list.
If Trumbo had any success at 3B, it would be a huge get for the Rays.
Then again, if Trumbo played well at 3B, he wouldn’t be traded.
Izturis/Callapso is a much more of a Rays type player…
If the Indians could get Trumbo for Perez and a prospect I’d jump at it…
They should trade pujols for some relief help
The funny thing is, they actually couldn’t.
