The Royals signed Doug Davis to a minor league deal, MLBTR has learned. Agent Steve Canter represents the 36-year-old left-hander.
Davis started nine games for the 2011 Cubs, posting a 6.50 ERA with 7.1 K/9 and 5.1 BB/9 in 45 2/3 innings. He owns a 4.44 ERA with 6.7 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9 in 13 seasons with the Rangers, Brewers, Diamondbacks, Cubs and Blue Jays.
Cub fan here, and I gotta say, this is pretty astounding. This is like the Terminator that wouldn’t die. Cubs ended the season 20 games under .500 last year, but at one point in late august they were 23 games under in games started by their 4th and 5th starters – a traveling circus that included Doug Davis. Someone should tell your GM that video of those games is not under CIA protection, you can watch then any time – and yet he still signed this guy?
It’s not like they signed him as the last piece of a World Series team. The Royals have one starter on the DL and another who left the game yesterday with tightness in the elbow.
Someone’s got to go out to the mound.
Frenchy
yes Cub fan educating Royals fan. Makes sense.
Depth move, nothing more.
Teaford’s ready….pitched a shutout for Omaha last start.
