Roy Oswalt recently threw for the Red Sox, Phillies, and Rangers, and Texas will reportedly consider signing the free agent right-hander in the wake of Neftali Feliz's elbow injury. Here's the latest on Oswalt…
- The Red Sox and Oswalt have not discussed a contract, reports Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe (on Twitter). GM Ben Cherington didn't deny that the right-hander worked out for the team according to Tim Britton of The Providence Journal (on Twitter), but he said there was nothing additional to report.

I can’t imagine Oswalt not signing with a team that has a legitimate shot at post-season glory. Almost the entire NL East is up for grabs. I see him signing with the Rangers, if he is to be in the AL, but he’s such an NL guy. I don’t know what pitching needs the Dodgers or Cardinals have, but I doubt that he’ll sign with a team destined to be an also-ran this season.

If the Red Sox had been insightful enough to envision Alberto Aceves having success in the closer’s role after Papelbon signed with the Phils, they would not have made the trade with Oakland for Bailey. This means that, today, Josh Reddick would probably be their regular right fielder, along with Ellsbury in CF and Crawford in LF….. Speed, hitting for average, defense and above a
average power would be how this tandem would be described by the media… Wow..
ps. Aceves (24-4 lifetime) was heaving the ball towards home plate at 97mph Monday night. He has the arm, and a gift for winning…..

There is no room for Reddick. Bailey only strengthens and already strong pen and Ross has done a fine job filling in. Kalish is waiting in the wings when he becomes healthy enough and gets more AAA seasoning. Now, he either takes over right field or CF, depending on what happenes with Ellsbury.

Yes, if only they had foreseen Alberto Aceves stinking just little enough to rack up the ever meaningful saves, and if only they had foreseen 7 outfielders being injured. I mean, who wouldn’t know that those things are going to happen?

I really hope the Rangers don’t sign this guy. We don’t need him, and it would be a waste of money. Feldman deserves a chance to fill that spot for the season if needed, and our bullpen is fine without him.

Why the Braves aren’t considering him is beyond me. Looks like all of their pitching depth isn’t working out for them. Too much competition in the NL East to beat around the bush.
