Let’s keep track of the day’s outright assignments right here…
- The Orioles have outrighted Brad Bergesen to Triple-A, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com. The 26-year-old right-hander was designated for assignment last weekend after pitching to a 5.13 ERA with 4.6 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 in 33 1/3 innings for Baltimore’s Triple-A affiliate this season.

Wow, no one claimed Bergesen?

He’s gone down hill fast and never had impressive stuff to begin with.

His game is to throw strikes relying on a good sinker. He doesn’t overpower batters but doesn’t throw soft either. He’s a tick above the garden-variety strikethrower finesse type. Since he had the fluke injury shooting a TV commercial, he’s lost his ability to throw strikes consistently, and the sinker is not as tight as it used to be when he was first called up. AL East batters are used to him and his games are usually about him trying to establish the ability to throw the sinker and fastball with command. AL East batters seem to sit back, sit on a pitch, wait for a mistake, get his pith count up, and pound him about the 4th to 6th inning.
Manny Being Manny
I’m really surprised nobody took a chance on him. This is a guy who was 7-5 with a 3.43 ERA in 19 starts a few years ago. He has skills, he’s just had some issues recently.
