The Indians have designated outfielder Nick Weglarz for assignment, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com (via Twitter). The move will allow the club to call up infielder Jose Lopez, who was DFA'd earlier this month.
Weglarz, 24, has hit .226/.366/.411 in parts of four seasons at the Double-A level. The outfielder also spent 50 games with the team's Triple-A affiliate in Columbus in 2010.

Hard to believe he is only 24. It seems like he has been in this system for a decade.

Well he signed when he was 17, so this is like his 7th or 8th season with the club. It’s been pretty much a decade.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Blue Jays try to grab Weglarz.

Some one Toronto or a team with nothing to lose like Houston / Oakland or Baltimore may give him a look I heard on the radio on MLB.com Dibble was talking the other day that there were 2 teams with open 40 man roster spots available I do not remember the teams but one of them could take a no risk look at Weglarz.

Issue is he may be down to his last option…and can’t seem to get out of AA.

It seems to be all health with Weglarz, too. But some team could look to catch lightning in a bottle.
