The Indians announced that they designated right-hander Jairo Asencio for assignment. They placed Jack Hannahan on the disabled list, recalled Lonnie Chisenhall and activated Josh Tomlin in corresponding moves.
The Indians acquired Asencio from the Braves for cash at the end of March. The out of options reliever posted a 5.96 ERA with 7.4 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9 in 25 2/3 innings for the Indians this year. He led the International League in saves in 2009 and 2011 and posted a 1.81 ERA with 11.5 K/9 and 3.6 BB/9 in 54 2/3 innings at Triple-A last year.

Blue Jays will pick him up

Brutal in Chicago this weekend. Cubs could use him.

I was just thinking the same thing. His FIP was less awful than his ERA and with the stuff he has and his minor league record, his K/9 could easily improve.
That’s the glass-is-half-full outlook, of course. But when you’re early in a rebuilding process, you have the worst record in the game, you’re riding a 12 game losing streak, and your “closer” is a godawful right-handed soft-tosser with control issues, you may as well roll the dice on someone like this.
Admittedly, he’s the same kind of not-really-a-prospect-even-though-he -closed-in-AAA guy as Dolis. But he has better stuff, at least.

he was a better pitcher when he was known as luis valdez.

Unfair, what because you put him in after two starters look like jokes?
