The Cubs have designated Blake DeWitt for assignment, according to Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald (via Twitter). The move will allow the club to make room for right-hander Travis Wood.
The 26-year-old started five games at second base for the Cubs this season and hit just .138/.133/.172 in 30 plate appearances. In parts of five big league seasons, DeWitt owns a .257/.324/.380 slash line for the Cubs and Dodgers.
DeWitt could be of interest to teams looking for depth at second or third base. The former first-round pick also started 17 games for the Cubs in left field in 2011.
Lefty
Do I really need to comment on this? =)

I think the braves should pick him up.

Travis Wood is a lefty.

That’s all, folks.

Giants may give him a look to cover 3b while Pablo is out…
rainyperez
Could see it happening. Use him at 3rd and when/if Freddy Sanchez comes back your either release Theriot or DFA Burriss assuming that the Giants optioned Conor Gillaspie before picking up DeWitt.
sourbob
They do seem to have a thing for middling ex-Cub middle IF.

Best of luck to Travis Wood. I’ll never forget that perfect game he took into 9th battling Roy Halladay.

Giants make a lot of sense, could also see the Rays pick him up.

They should have non tendered DeWitt in December. He did nothing in 2011 and has been on the decline the last 3 seasons. Back up players like him are always available for the league minimum and aren’t worth the 1.2 mill they paid DeWitt.
Timothy
He would hit better with a full time gig. Makes sense for the Tigers who have a gaping hole at 2B.
thefallensoldier
about damn time
RAYS7
Rays could make sense
Dynasty22
He’s worse than Elliot Johnson.
swankwank
Nobody claimed him last time he was DFA. But I guess with the injuries to other players another team may bite this time.
Ptk123
I really hope someone claims him!

The A’s also have a hole at 2B what with Weeks completely bombing this year. Looks like Inge is their stop-gap at 3B and DeWitt could fill in at second.
