The Orioles claimed infielder Zelous Wheeler off of waivers from the Brewers, the teams announced. The Orioles have optioned him to Triple-A. Meanwhile, the Brewers now have three open spots on their 40-man roster.
Wheeler, 25, posted a .272/.378/.459 batting line in the upper minors of the Brewers' system last year. The 2007 19th rounder owns a .271/.371/.408 career line in parts of five minor league seasons.
Cause all the O’s need is another light hitting utility infielder at AAA. Antonelli and Tolleson?
He’s more of a medium hitting third baseman who consistently gets on base. As opposed to Josh Bell, who you might recall had a 55 to 2 K/BB ratio during his first stint with the big club. He’s also young and optionable. Not sure why Milwaukee let him become available.
Brewers just lost their best farmhand name…
But at least we still have Scooter Gennett. Maybe not as awesome, but still good nonetheless.
I preferred his older brother, Eighteen.
This might be my new all time favorite baseball name.
Can you imagine the look he must get when pulled over for speeding?
When I first saw the headline, I thought they were talking about Dan Wheeler and just saying he was zealous. fail.
Is his brother Jelous?
Is his cousin Envious?
Obvious.
Does this mean the Brewers are over Zelous?
I hear he plays the infield with a great amount of dedication, fervor, and passion. Is there an adjective for that?
being gritty? *sarcasm*
Darn; looked like a good kid. He was doing all he could to get the majors…even picked up a catcher’s glove and started dabbling in catching to increase his value
How zealous of him.
Zelous is just one of zelice, you need zeshampoo to get rid of zem.
Can a Brewer’s fan tell me about this guy?
He usually has pretty good plate discipline, but sometimes he can get a bit overzealous.
271 hitter with 371 OBP in 5 minor league seasons. Plays 3B, with experience at SS, 2B, and LF. Also started catching a little bit this year in spring training. Looked pretty good in Spring Training. Nothing special, but potential to be a solid contributor/utility guy.
Solid looking ballplayer. Nothing special, but he can play all over the field, shows a pretty good eye at the plate, and at least semi-above-average defense. Not really sure why Brooks Conrad made our roster over him.
This is the Orioles’ way of telling Josh Bell that his conditioning and his lack of plate discipline are no longer acceptable.
With this pickup, the O’s will definitely strike fear into the hearts of the other teams in the AL East
Read the headline quickly thought it said Zach Wheeler…nearly had a heart attack
he will make all of his teammates better. Won’t find a better clubhouse guy. He will get on base, score runs, and he has a sick glove.
