The latest minor moves from around MLB…
- The Mets announced that they released right-hander Tobi Stoner (Twitter links). The 27-year-old posted a 6.05 ERA with 5.7 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 105 2/3 innings at Class A and Double-A in 2011. He briefly made it to the Major Leagues in 2009 and 2010. The Mets also released Eric Niesen, Nick Carr, Roy Merritt, Chris Hilliard, Ronny Morla, Steve Winnick, Lucas Stewart and Chase Greene.

Sad to see him go, I’m not. This post before “Stoner” jokes, I’m placing it.

Kind of strange that the Mets released a bunch of players a week before the season begins. Don’t most teams release the players they think aren’t worth spending time on developing at the beginning of the off season?

They all were in the minors. Minors begin later than the Majors.
