Outfielder Chris Carter is now playing with the Seibu Lions, reports ESPN New York's Adam Rubin (on Twitter). This is the Chris Carter who was traded from the Red Sox to the Mets for Billy Wagner in 2009, not the current Athletics prospect.
Carter, 29, has hit .263/.316/.374 with four homers in 206 big league plate appearances spread across three seasons. He spent last year in Triple-A with the Rays and Braves, hitting .286/.331/.488 with 14 homers in 308 plate appearances. The left-handed swinger has experience at both corner outfield spots as well as first base.

Boston needs him for a trade chip again.. Vitek, Ranaudo from the draft and a month or so of Wagner was a pretty fair return…

…and all because the Mets wanted to save like a million bucks for what was left on his deal for the rest of the season. Completely spacing off that they’d reap the rewards with the arbitration offer and subsequent draft picks.
Instead, the Red Sox got a month or so of solid relief work, the compensation picks, and they only gave up marginal talent. Meanwhile, the division rival Braves then picked up Wagner in the offseason on a completely reasonable deal while the Mets slugged through another year of overpaid K-Rod and the madness he brings.
Good times.
Why isn’t Omar the GM there anymore?! :-/

Don’t know if you are keeping tabs with all the minor league free agents, but there are several others who have signed with Independent Leagues, etc. Former Jays pitcher Rommie Lewis, veteran UI Eddie Rogers, Astros OF Drew Locke, vet 1B/OF/DH Jason Botts signed in the Atlantic League. Giants LHRP Justin Dowdy signed with the American Association League. 1B/3B Andy Tracy retired. Catcher Kevin Cash become a scout for the Jays. Toby Gardenhire became coach of UW-Stout.

I just want to point out that when you click the Chris Carter link in the story, it goes to the A’s Chris Carter, not the one who was in the Rays organization last year and the Mets the previous year. Also, i liked him as a player, he was always jittery, from his personality to his batting stance, and he said it was because he was in love with drinking Red Bulls. He had good numbers and i thought he was a good bat to have off of the bench. He would have been useful for the Mets this year because they needed a cheap lefty to come off the bench this year, but i think they have enough coming up from the minors.
