We'll keep track of today's minor moves right here..
- The Red Sox signed right-hander Sean White to a minor league deal, according to Matt Eddy of Baseball America. White, 30, has 105 career major league games with the Mariners to his credit and has a 4.16 ERA with 4.0 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9. White spent 2011 with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate.

The flying tomato has joined MLB!

Wow! I knew the Red Sox were desperate for pitching, but I never would of thought that we would turn to a snowboarder for depth…

I can see the lowest part of the barrel.

Am curious how much room Boston is going to have at Pawtucket for actual prospects.. They have signed nearly 20 retreads already to minor league deals, have Alex Wilson, Middlebrooks, Lavarnway, Lin, Hassan, Kalish, Tazawa, Exposito, Hazelbaker, Linares, Fields, Clay.. I am at a loss here…

The Pawsox are AAA right? If so, I wouldn’t worry about depth signings as most teams fill up their AAA rosters with that. Most prospects will go from AA to MLB unless they already came up to the majors and need to go back to the minors for a little bit.
Also, being that it’s a minor league deal, the Sox could cut him at any point and it wouldn’t hurt them, so White’s (and presumably others) roster spots are definitely not completely theirs.

I just don’t like seeing possibly poor choices made with people who SHOULD be at Pawtucket, being left behind at Portland too long, only because there is no room.
There was a prime example of this last season with Alex Wilson. The PawSox rotation was full of retreads.. Not -1- prospect amongst them, yet Wilson was left at AA and was pretty much dominant. Now Boston needs a starter correct? Wilson finally got in a handful (4) starts at the end of the season when they released Millwood.
Wilson could be more in the mix and the team a much better idea of just how ready he is.. If they had 1 less of those people, who except for 1 are long gone and with someone else this year, just like these types do every season.. Sign AAAA type contracts and act as fillers.
Have always despised this type of action when it is done on a mass basis and can understand if a team gets 5-6, like 1 IF, 1 OF a couple of pitchers and a catcher, but no more and uses prospects for the rest.
Just how often are these types EVER used at the MLB level in an emergency? Like 2 times a season? A rookie can fill that void.
Rant over.

Fair enough, I usually have no problem when the Mets do it, but then again they’re the Mets, and most of the filler players will play in the Majors that year because the MLB team sucks.

Hard not to be excited about this move…

I can see Deion Sanders moving from baseball to football or Brock Lesnar from wrestling to MMA …. but Sean White from snowboarding to baseball … dude … that’s insane!

people need to shut up…it’s a minor league deal, the yankees and other teams make small moves every year like this…it is not like he is gonna pitch in the MLB…this is a minor league move….

and yes…i don’t understand why they report moves like this even though you never heard of the person

Sean White is awful, he can´t get grounders, his sinker is probably the worst pitch in baseball, now the Red Sox have both sirkerballers who can´t get grounders… Silva and White, terrible Mariners memories…
