The latest players to be outrighted off of big league rosters…
- The Yankees outrighted Kevin Whelan to Triple-A, MLB.com's Bryan Hoch tweets. Whelan posted a 2.75 ERA with 9.3 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 52 1/3 innings at Triple-A in 2011. The 2005 fourth rounder owns a 3.23 ERA with 11.1 K/9 and 5.0 BB/9 in seven minor league seasons. He was designated for assignment last week.

Hmm, no one wanted to give this guy a shot? Looks pretty good stat wise…

I’m shocked nobody picked him up, too. Either it reflects some kind of unwritten rule of etiquette that I don’t know about or everybody knows he’s got a shoulder injury or some other injury that make him a waste of a roster spot. His stats in the minors for 80% or so of the year were extremely impressive.

It is hard to find a place for a guy like this on the 40-man roster if he is out of assignment options and is not a certainty for the 25-man roster. Especially at this time of year when most 40-man rosters are full.

1 2/3 career innings at the MLB level, with 5 BB’s to go against it. Impressive.
