The Rockies have acquired utility man Chad Tracy from the Rangers for right-hander Greg Reynolds according to the team's Twitter feed. Tracy is the son of Rockies manager Jim Tracy.
Reynolds, 26, was the second overall pick in the 2006 draft and has pitched to a 7.47 ERA in 94 big league innings from 2008-2011. He missed most of 2009 and part of 2010 with shoulder problems. Tracy, 26, has never appeared in the big leagues. He's a .269/.340/.466 career hitter in the minors, spending the last two seasons at Triple-A (.260/.342/.485 hitter at the level). Tracy has played first base, left field, and catcher in his career.
“Tracy is the son of Rockies manager Jim Tracy.”
lol.
O hai der nepotism, i c u.
I was really confused when I saw the headline. I really thought the Rockies had traded their manager and I didn’t know why.
I know why.

Don’t knock Jim. I’m eternally grateful for the at-bats (some at cleanup!) that he gave me.
– Jason Phillips
And Hee Seop Choi (probably, I was like 10 at that point so I don’t remember that well)
Wow.. Chad Tracy still plays? Haven’t seen him for years.
Different Chad Tracy. Â The Chad Tracy you are thinking of is coming back to the US this spring.
Ah, thanks!
Reynolds is a tall dude. Too bad he isn’t a lefty.
Nolan must see something he thinks he can fix in this guy.
Greg Reynolds truly one of the biggest draft busts/worst picks of all time. Good riddance even if it is for the managers kid!
even worse than bryan bullington first overall in 2002?
For whatever it’s worth, Bullington threw 200+ innings of 2.42 ERA ball in Japan in 2011 with 1.1 WHIP. His minor league numbers are actually pretty decent.
MLB Traderumors said that Chad Tracy was signed by the Nationals 3 weeks ago. How could he have been on the Rangers?
There are 2 different Chad Tracys. The Nationals’ Chad Tracy is the one who used to be an MLB regular with the Diamondbacks and other teams. The Chad Tracy who is now a Rockie is also an infielder, but not the same person
A tale of two Tracys.
 Chad Tracys*
Wait, Jim Tracy has two sons named Chad who are both infielders, and now the younger one is on the Rockies?
Yeah, this article is confusing me…
Um…Wasn’t Reynolds the guy taken over Longoria, Lincecum and Justin Upton?
So was Luke Hochevar (whom Im a fan of).
Upton was drafted the year prior.
Replace Upton with Kershaw then were back on track. Sighhh
It also doesn’t help that the link to this Chad Tracy leads to the baseball-reference page for the former DBack Chad Tracy.
Bust lol
grr. I am confused and angry.
Guys like Reynolds are why I’ll never take the types of posters on here who say stuff like “omg Player A, who is a regular everyday player, is NEVERRRR worth prospect Player B, Prospect B is more valuable, etc.” seriously. A great majority of highly touted prospects end up like Reynolds than they do a successful big leaguer.
Hopefully the Maddux brothers turn this guy into a solid piece.
How do you think Chad Tracy feels knowing he’s the third Tracy people thought of upon seeing the headline
too many chad tracys.
Wait “Infielder?” He’s played 1B and LF. I usually think of infielder as having played the majority of the infield, at least the harder spots.
The term “utility outfielder” hasn’t become popular yet.
yea i thought this was ex d-back chad tracy, apparently not
Chad Tracy was born day after Greg Reynolds. Â Weird or what?Â
There’s two Chad Tracy’s, they took the first one and then “trace”d the other
Holy crap, I thought they were talking about Mark Reynolds. His power and that park…scary.
Theoretically he would then be leaving Coors. His power in either park…scary.
his strikeouts everywhere…scary!

Agreed, world’s biggest “daddy coach”?
Instead of looking through the thread to see if someone already said it, I would like to personally thank the Rockies for taking Reynolds over Longoria. A little known fact was, we expected the Rockies to take Evan and we had a deal in place with Lincecum. Our offense is bad enough, I prefer the Evan pick but imagine for a second. Price – Lincecum – Shields – Hellickson – Moore.
Baffled me on the day the ’06 draft took place. Still remember it.
How different things could be, not just for the Rays, but for the Rockies. Tulo/Cargo/Longoria in the middle of the order, wow.
doubt you guys could have traded for/signed cargo with longo/tulo already around though
Why not? The trade to get cargo was for Matt Holliday. They probably wouldnt have been able to sign him to the 8 yrs 80 mil they did last winter but prior to that contract he was under team control for another 3 seasons so having those 3 would have definitely been attainable for the short term. A increase in payroll would have to occur to be able to attain all 3 of them long term.

I guess it’s bring your son to work day in Colorado..
