The Reds have claimed Josh Judy off waivers from the Indians, reports MLB.com's Jordan Bastian (on Twitter). Judy was designated for assignment last week to clear room on the 40-man roster for the recently acquired Aaron Cunningham.
Judy, 25, was a 34th-round draft pick for the Tribe in 2007. He made his Major League debut last season, posting a 7.07 ERA in 14 innings out of the Cleveland bullpen. Judy has some impressive numbers over five seasons in the minors (career 2.81 ERA, 10.4 K/9 rate, 2.4 K/BB ratio), so it's not surprising he was claimed. Cincinnati's 40-man roster is now at 37.

Judge Judy, say what.

And the Reds have found their new closer. Take that Cordero!

He actually could be pretty good. I know nothing about him, but his stats indicate to me, that he just might have some potential.
I wonder why the Indians gave up on him, their bullpen isn’t that special.
I like their closer Perez, he could be excellent. As for everyone else….

Strong mid 90’s fastball/nasty slider combination. Has a very good arm. Was drafted late because of pending surgery.. Is a good prospect that got caught up in the numbers..

The essentially lost Judy and Cory Burns for Super AAAA Aaron Cunningham who already fits the same mold as a few other deadbeats in the Tribe system. Judy should project as a solid middle to late inning reliever. The Indians may as well have just sent Judy along with Burns to San Diego.

I was thinking the same thing. Man I really hope Cunningham has a good spring, if not, ouch!

Indians bullpen is actually pretty good. Sipp, Raffy Perez, Chris Perez, Joe Smith are all good. I think Vinnie Pestano can eventually replace CP. I could have seen them keep Judy to replace Durbin in long relief. But from what I have seen he is nothing special.
Hermie13
hmm, they had a top 5 bullpen in the AL last year…maybe it’s not ‘special’ but it was pretty darn solid.
Judy wasn’t going to make this club out of spring training. Surprised they DFAed him though. But Putnam is ahead of him and hermann can man long relief. Better arms are coming thru the system too including Adams, Hagadone, Price, Bryson, etc.
Don’t get trading Burns and losing Judy though for Cunningham. I’d have DFAed De La Cruz personally…can’t see anyone taking him as he is still struggling in AA and is down to only 1 option left.

my goodness look at all the responses..

I didn’t mean anything by it.
I watched a lot of Indians games last year because I was hoping that the Indians were going to surprise the whole division and the fact you swept us at least once (O’s).
I wasn’t trying to knock the bullpen. Anyway, I just wanted to clear that up. It’s a shame though that the O’s didn’t claim him. We probable could have used him.

I’d say he throws like a girl, but those are some nice peripherals

Josh “Jody”???
Lefty
Is it Josh Judy? Or Josh Jody? Or the Reds Just Joshing about this whole transaction?
Wada a Mada witt U’all
Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
FamousGrouse
Will you be here all week?
Jason McNeely
He may fit into the pen at some point. Closer, maybe not, but maybe a long man.

Good low risk, high reward signing

You are about to step up to the mound of Pitcher Josh Judy. The Batters are real. The Pitchers are real. The Calls are final. THIS IS JUDGE JUDY
Stev84
We will need Josh to come out with a book and his own robe and gavel when he steps up to bat. Josh rules in favor of a fat fastball right down the middle and that’s final!
headsupkid01
There it is! that’s what you were missing in order to take the division from the Cards.
Gumby65
Hmmmm, this explains the signing of journeyman back-up A-Ball catcher Joe Brown…

Son of a Judge!

Reds did this to see if the guy has anything or if his minor league numbers are a fluke. I figure its not a bad risk to take. I also don’t think this is our closer. Praying the Reds are not holding tryouts in Spring for the closer job.
