The latest minor moves from around MLB…
- The Nationals signed left-hander Mike Ballard to a minor league deal, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson (on Twitter). Ballard, 27, posted a 3.84 ERA with 8.5 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9 in 159 1/3 innings for the Orioles' top affiliates this past season. He has a 4.50 ERA with 6.7 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 in six minor league seasons in the Rangers' and Orioles' systems.

What I don’t understand is why you feel you have to make a comment at all. This is just a minor move of the type made by every major league team in the off-season. Yet people all across the country feel it necessary to make the ever so clever remark of, “We can start printing playoff tickets now! Nyuck, nyuck!” Or some such silly thing. Please. Don’t be so daft. Save your comments for moves like signing Werth to a multi-year deal for huge bucks. Those are the moves to criticize, not the signing of a Mike Ballard to a minor league deal.

I’d believe that if I didn’t see similar comments every time a team makes a minor deal like this. The Orioles sign a couple of minor league free agents a couple of weeks ago and the geniuses here are ready to hang Duquette in effigy. “We waited five years for Wada?” or “Same Orioles, different boss, same stupid moves!” or “Do they really think Chavez will get them to the World Series?” Good Lord!
I apologize to you, sir, if indeed your remark was made in jest. It’s just that the inner Rodney Dangerfield of so many of our colleagues comes out whenever we hear of a signing like this. Gets tiresome after a while, know what I mean?
Good day, sir.

Nice signing. I hope we see him on the major league level this year.

A diamond that is continuing to be polished! I hope we get to see him on the mound with his former UVA roommate at third.
