The latest on the Braves…
- The Braves would not be a suitor for Hanley Ramirez if the Marlins decide to trade him, reports David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They've got Tyler Pastornicky penciled into the starting shortstop role for 2012, though GM Frank Wren seeks "a traditional backup shortstop," not a semi-regular. O'Brien says the Braves don't want to make a multiyear commitment. I'd consider Nick Punto a semi-regular and a candidate for a two-year deal, but O'Brien says he is a Braves target.
- Next week's potential non-tenders are not among the Braves' targets, Wren told reporters including MLB.com's Mark Bowman.
Wow, not among the Braves targets? That doesn’t sound like Wren to me lol. Well that makes me think that we might get something while we’re at the meetings and actually participate 😉
man do you really think the bravos would get hanley; given his relationship with fredi at fl. basically the reason fredi was fired!

If we are really just going the backup SS route, then Jack Wilson is the obviously the best player out there to fit this role. I just am dumbfounded that we haven’t even heard the slightest mention he could come back.
I like Nick Punto a lot more than Jack Wilson.
jack wilson would be way cheaper. if they want a traditional back up he fits.
Or they could just re-sign Alex Gonzalez….

you know who is a really good shortstop? Yunel Escobar!
Original.
The better Escobar looks in TOR the least likely ATL will be trading any pitching in the near future to TOR. GMs don’t forget trades.
How’s your pitching search going? We’ve got got starting pitchers in our bullpen.
this is really weird because one of my best friends is named Derek Carter.
Its extraordinary because he would also totally lose sight of the fact he was merely being teased and bring up something that is completely unrelated in order to feel like he showed me up.
Do they still have a pitching surplus? Lowrie’s at the least an adequate backup. His health may cause concerns as a starter, but he could potentially work out as a utility guy.
Macier Izturiz….. Just hope the Angels sign Aramis

Martin Prado/Medlan for Reddick and Lowrie?
No thank you.
Does anyone know if Chone Figgins can play SS? I know he has had two down years with the M’s but he has a tremendous upside. The M’s said earlier this offseason that they would be willing to eat all but two million on the remaining two year contract… A Million per year is not too shabby. I like it anyway.
No, he can’t. But SEA can’t eat enough of his contract to make it movable. The guy is the new Vernon Wells.
As I am sure that Frank Wren checks these forums consistently,
and is always looking for sound advice from the fans.
PLEASE pick up either Jack Wilson, or preferably trade for Brendan Ryan.
We’ve already signed Jack Wilson and Drew Sutton to minor league deals. That’s done. But they’re not looked at at being a bridge, just a body to step on if the bridge collapses.
You’re thinking of the minor league contract to Josh Wilson. Jack Wilson has not signed yet. Unless I am mistaken.
You are not mistaken.
Robert Andino?
I wonder if Fredi is opposed to bring in Hanley. He certainly would be that middle of the order RH thumper the braves need.
Rack your brain and you’ll remember the reason Fredi Gonzalez was fired in FLA in the first place, thus becoming the ATL manager. Hint: It has to do with someone not hustling to field a ball…
WREN ALREADY SAID They arent getting ramirez but of course he could be lying or blowing smoke because he doesnt want anyone to know what if anything the braves are up to….
C’mon Tim, even if we could get HanRam we wouldn’t – and it’s not because of Tyler Pastornicky – it’s because Fredi Gonzalez and HanRam having a falling out in FLA that ended with Loria firing Gonzalez shortly thereafter. I’d be surprised if the Marlins take any of the Braves calls on anything, let alone on HanRam.
And that’s even if we wanted him. He’s a clubhouse cancer and we’ve already gotten rid of a talented SS (Escobar) because of the same reason. No thanks.
Hanley not an option? haha if he’s available then why wouldnt we make a play for him? (throwing aside the fredi fued and sometimes lackadaisical defense ) he woud be a tremendous upgrade to our offense and the RH bat that we need. With all of this being said we do this as long as we dont have to give up the world for him.
Really, man. Really? Throw on top the fact that he’s demanding a trade from his current employer, not to mention the bad defense, injuries, contract, and sliding offense. He’s not a SS anymore and he needs to realize that (hello, Derek Jeter…is this thing on?). We’ve gotten our team cancer off our team and we really don’t need to even inquire on HanRam. He’s not worth even a phone call.
Couldn’t have said it any better.
If he can’t get a starting job elsewhere, Ronny Cedeño could be a desirable target to back-up at SS.
Izturis makes a lot of sense. Can spell guys at 3B, SS, and 2B
Jeff Keppinger. Go Dawgs!!!
I say Jurrjens to the Halos for Erick Aybar!
I don’t understand the Braves lack of interest in Keppinger, esp. given his numbers against lefties. Diaz didn’t solve our issues against lefties. Diaz is overpaid and needs to go, but we’re likely stuck with him. Keppinger would be a good option to split time at short with Pastornicky (assuming they really end up going with Pastornicky).
I certainly rather have Keppinger than Punto, Wilson, etc. I don’t believe the defense will be that much of a difference (especially factoring in the offense, etc).
