The Royals have designated infielder Jeff Bianchi for assignment to create 40-man roster space for Jonathan Broxton, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports (Twitter link). Kansas City's 40-man roster remains full.
The Royals selected Bianchi in the second round of the 2005 draft. The 25-year-old posted a .259/.320/.333 line with 23 doubles in 499 plate appearances at Double-A in 2011 and has a career line of .281/.335/.410 over the course of six minor league seasons. He has spent considerable time at both shortstop and second base.
That’s some farm system the Royals have. They can just haphazardly designate a solid prospect like Bianchi for assignment.
Bianchi is a walking injury
I’ll have you know that Jeff Bianchi would respond to that…except that his right arm is currently in a sling, awaiting some pins in his wrist to be removed.
I’ll have you know that Jeff Bianchi would type an angry reply to that…were his right arm not in a sling that keep all the pins in his wrist immobilized.
25 years old and never sniffed the Majors. He’s not bad, but he’s not that good either. I’m actually happy for him because when someone else picks him up he may have a chance with that organization.
Shane Costa was a ‘solid’ prospect too.
80 wRC+ in AA last year as a 24/25 year old…nothing solid about that

Sad to see Jeff go, but in a strange way he represents the last of the bad-school Royals. Four years ago, he was one of our top prospects but with the system Dayton has built, Jeff has gone from Top 10 to expendable.
He had a huge surgery and might clear waivers? He came back from missing a year as coming in before the injury with a good chance to win a 25 man roster spot. He did miserable last year.
yeah…when he was producing, could stay healthy, and the royals had one of the worst systems in baseball. he’s 25 and was awful in AA last year
