The latest on the Rockies from the Denver Post's Troy Renck:
- The Rockies continue to search for starting pitching via trade, having met with a few teams already. They probably won't match the asking prices for John Danks or Wandy Rodriguez, but they could target arms such as Ricky Nolasco, Anibal Sanchez, Jeff Niemann, and Wade Davis, if the Marlins and Rays are willing to deal.
- The club plans to tender Ian Stewart a contract, but that doesn't necessarily mean he'll be a Rockie in 2012. Multiple clubs have inquired on Stewart, and Colorado is listening.
- Grady Sizemore won't work out for the Rockies, but the team hopes to get a better read on his health when he visits the Steadman-Hawkins clinic in Vail, Colorado.
- The Rockies would have interest in LaTroy Hawkins if they opened up a spot for him by trading Huston Street.

Would love to see Cards sell high on Kyle Lohse. Clear a little bit more salary.

Selling high on Lohse? Don’t think anyone else wants him.

I think the Rockies can get Davis at a resinable price. Tho he does remind me of a Jason Hammel type.
Vinnie White
He’s got a sick change up. He would be a good fit here.

Too bad there’s no mention of Seth Smith to the Braves so Braves fans can freak out more. NO FRANK WREN! NO! I WON’T WATCH BRAVES GAMES ANYMORE OMG!!
Vinnie White
That’s pretty funny! I really like Smith and he could have a career year next year. Maybe Tampa when we trade for Davis or Niemann!
bravo_rob
For Smith to have a career year he has to convince his own GM that he actually is an everyday player… instead he’s not viewed that way in COL.

His GM could fire his Manager that would go a long way towards doing just that, although with Tim Wheeler breaking the Rockies AA HR record as a LH CF and Charlie Blackmon posting a 950 OPS in AAA last year as a LH CF the Rockies should probably move Seth down the line

I like the Nelasco and Sanchez idea. Wade Davis is nice. I also really like Capuano. I’ve liked him for awhile as a guy to have a breakout year.
As for second base, I would love to see Nelson and Herrera there. Nelson with pop and Herrera for a spark plug. I see Stewart actually having a good year.

The only way Stewart produces even a slight bit is if Tracy stops messing with his mind by playing him in certain match ups and sending him up and down but still don’t know if he gets a shot to play everyday. (Is Arenado ready yet?!)
I wouldn’t hate the idea of Nelson and Herrera splitting time/competing for the 2B job but it would be disappointing as a Rox fan to see guys like Ellis/Johnson/Carroll etc. signing else where when their a clear upgrade (for reasonable $$) than what we have internally.
I am OK if the Rockies look internally for options at 2B/3B BUT if that happens there better be a solid #2 starter-type signed that will undoubtedly eat 200 innings. And O’Dowd shouldn’t stop there with improving the rotation.
If we stand pat like we seem to do every winter by bringing in stop-gap type players and hoping to catch fire in a bottle then the Rockies will be non-existent in 2012.

Bleed, I’m a firm believer in Jim Tracy being a BIG part of what is wrong in Colorado, but for whatever reason Rockies’ brass loves the guy…he meddles way too much with the line up and plays match ups way more than I think they need to be…set a line up and run with it…it seemed to me that nobody could get into any sort of rhythm this past season and that was a part of the reason why…I wish Nolan Arenado was ready, because it would more than likely mean 3B is settled and a non-issue…I’m an not fine with a platoon of Nelson and Herrera though…I don’t think they are the everyday answer at 2B…that’s just me though…

If the Fish are truly going to be spending $$$, then locking up Sanchez would be one of the best ideas they will probably address and not moving him.
He is one of the better 2-3 SP in the NL last season after finally having a healthy season and with the uncertainty over JJ, they would be very foolish to move him.
missyae
I know he’s a left hand hitter but I would love to see Ian Stewart on the Red Sox!
progmatinee
That’s cool because I would love to see Dustin Pedroia on the Rockies….LOL Lets do it.
