The Rangers are looking at available left-handed starting pitchers to replace the possibly-departing C.J. Wilson, reports Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. It isn't a foregone conclusion that Wilson will sign elsewhere this winter, but the Rangers are preparing themselves just in case.
White Sox left-hander John Danks is "high on their list," confirming a report yesterday from Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman. Danks was originally drafted ninth overall by Texas in the 2003 draft before being traded to Chicago in 2006 as part of the Brandon McCarthy deal.
If the Rangers chose to replace Wilson with another free agent, the club has been connected to Mark Buehrle (the next best available free agent southpaw), as well as right-handers Edwin Jackson and Roy Oswalt. Texas could also look internally, as Rosenthal/Morosi report that the Rangers "are leaning toward" moving closer Neftali Feliz into the starting rotation.
As for Wilson, his agent Bob Garber told Rosenthal/Morosi that potentially switching from the AL to the NL wouldn't be the major factor in determining where Wilson signs, though Garber said his client would "love to play in the National League" since Wilson enjoys hitting.
Don’t they have enough left handed starting pitchers?
You would think 2 in a rotation is plenty.
In our ballpark? Never.
I can see Roy Oswalt going to the Rangers. He could supply the talent the team needs.
Oswalt to the Rangers makes sense, CJ could sign with the Nats or Yanks!
anybody but the nats
I also agree on Oswalt to the Rangers. I also remember them being on his extremely short list of teams he’d accept a trade to before he went to the Phillies. This needs to get done, regardless of if CJ resigns or not
I’ll pass on Danks and Jackson…we have enough mid-rotation starters already. And all of them are probably as good, better or have the potential to be better than those guys
Signing Oswalt would be a big plus, as would be moving Neftali to the rotation. If they can somehow find a way to retain CJ (which I wouldn’t be all that surprised to see), they could have Oswalt, Wilson, Feliz, Holand, and Lewis as a rotation, with Harrison and Ogando going to the ‘pen and available for when Oswalt is hurt or Feliz is tired.
Sign Dirk Norwitsky ( from the mavericks) as the left-handed pitcher Rangers! That’ll solved your left-handed connundrum!
go read up on your mess in Seattle ok.
I’m going to assume you meant to horribly mis-spell Dirk’s name.
No i forgot that’s all. My bad.
Dirk is a righty.
But he actually looks right at home in a baseball uniform. Kinda Dennis Eckersley-ish.
why would Oswalt make sense? I keep seeing people say this but do not go in to much detail as to why they think he would work?
Every team thinks Oswalt makes sense. He potentially gives you a top of the rotation starter and won’t require the huge commitment that others with his upside will.
I am just not wild on Oswalt being he spends a lot of time on the DL with back issues. I suppose if the price is right then ok, but I have yet to see any figures on what he is wanting. I guess once I see that, then I can make my opinion known.
Move Feliz to the rotation already! If he doesn’t work out you can always move him back but a good starter is worth more then a good reliever.
They will. This will be the season it finally happens. It would have happened last season if they would have had a good enough option at closer coming out of spring training.
What could the White Sox expect in return from Texas by trading Danks there?
2 prospects minimum-3 max…at least one close to mlb ready or mlb ready out fielder, and maybe one 3rd base or 2nd base prospect and maybe a pitching prospect
No thank you. We have plenty of mid-rotation guys. We don’t need another. If we trade any prospects it’ll be for frontline guys or relievers.
a David Murphy possibly Mitch Moreland type player. Possibly a couple of minor league pitchers. I just do not see Texas giving up a lot for him.
Nothing to do with this, but reports are that Wilson Ramos was found safe!!!!!
Had to post it!
