Some links on this Sunday afternoon..
- In an interview with "Sunday Morning SportsTalk," Twins GM Terry Ryan indicated that Trevor Plouffe will likely play in the outfield and DH in 2012, writes Phil Mackey of 1500ESPN.com. Mackey (via Twitter) sees this as a sign that Michael Cuddyer won't be back in Minnesota.
- Regardless of what Albert Pujols decides to do this winter, Cardinals GM John Mozeliak doesn't envision making major changes to the team's core, writes Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch.
- The Phillies can’t keep adding and retaining the biggest, most expensive stars, writes Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The club's signing of Jonathan Papelbon to a four-year, $50MM deal could hamper them both in the short-term and long-term.
- The Dodgers can fetch a record price tag of $1 billion can be expected for the organization, Dodger Stadium and the surrounding real estate, writes Arash Markazi of ESPNLosAngeles.com. One of the biggest reasons for the team's value is all of the undeveloped real estate surrounding Dodger Stadium, which sits on 275 acres of land that is largely used for parking.

You’re team won 14 straight divisions and one one championship… you guys don’t really have a lot of room to talk.
The Braves didn’t spend the money the Phillies do but they had talent.

Really, 12 comments in and I’m the first one who’s going to comment on Trevor Plouffe being a DH?
mauerfan
I felt like it wasn’t something getting worked up about even though it’s the worst thing in the world I did say something about how Cuddyer would be better then him but it said a mod had to approve it. Dumb.
Khabibulan
Hey, if Mark Kotsay can do it, so can Plouffe! :/

It is strange that he’d even be considered as a DH really at all, considering that he’s never flashed power until last year at Rochester. Not sure how good a shortstop he actually is, but he may be playable in the outfield… just doesn’t have the raw power to be a DH I don’t think…
mauerfan
There’s a reason he got moved from shortstop to OF/DH…..

There aren’t very many suitable DH candidates on the Twins roster for Terry Ryan to chose from. Morneau is the logical fit to DH to begin the season, but I don’t think he can be counted on anymore. That leaves Mauer, who is determined to catch until he completely breaks down, or free agents, who don’t come cheap.
MNTwins12
You don’t think Morneau can be counted on anymore? The last time he was healthy (about one and a half years ago) he was on his way to a MVP caliber season but of course got hurt in July. He came back last year (supposedly healthy) and had a batting average of about .230, but continued to play at first base. He had reoccurring symptoms of a concussion which may have affected his performance, and probably caused from playing at first base. He also missed a huge portion of spring training in 2011 and never got his timing down. If he got practice on designated hitting in spring training and continued as a DH throughout the season, don’t you think there is a large chance all of his 2011 stats will turn around? It isn’t like all of his talent disappeared. I think we should give Chris Parmalee a chance at first base as his replacement, along with Joe Mauer when he isn’t catching, or on the DL. Regarding Trever Plouffe, however, I hope Terry Ryan isn’t planning on starting him as a outfielder or DH, otherwise the Twins are in deep trouble. I consider Plouffe as a good bench player who can play in the field as a replacement. (Hopefully his defense improves and he can be Jamey Carroll’s backup at the shortstop position)

Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Morneau healthy and productive, but his symptoms reoccurred last year after a simple dive while playing first. If that’s going to put him on the shelf, then who’s to say that a hard slide into second base won’t. DHing is low impact, but there still is going to be some impact running the bases and playing hard as he always has. Not to mention, his swing is as violent as they get.
MNTwins12
Yeah I think you can speak for every Twins fan. I’m just hopeful that Morneau has recovered from his concussion even more now that hes had so much time off. Just imagine how destructive our lineup would be if both the M&M boys were back to their productive, healthy forms.

So, Plouffe will probably become the next RF. Unless they decide to keep Revere in Center, then Span will be in right and Plouffe will be in Left.
At least Plouffe has the power of a corner OF.
vtadave
Pretty sure that a Plouffe/Reyes/Span outfield isn’t in the cards. That would be brutal.
Donskoy
Maybe Benson, but if we don’t resign Cuddyer or another outfielder and don’t make a trade…

Yes, Reyes would be brutal… to our budget. lol I would rather see Plouffe as a backup DH instead of a corner outfielder. I’m hopeful though that if we don’t sign Cuddyer to return, we can keep Kubel who could be a corner outfielder instead of Plouffe. Revere in left, Span in center, Cuddyer or Kubel in right.

I don’t think Revere has a strong enough arm to be considered a center fielder. If anything Span will be in center, while Plouffe and Revere can occupy the corner outfields.
twins33
It sounded like Terry Ryan believes Span is a CF and Revere is a LF. Revere’s arm is crap…which Terry Ryan agreed with.
Brian M
I don’t know about that. Minor league power but did he really hit well during his time in the major leagues? I sure didn’t see it!

If Cuddyer wants more than 10 million a year from Minnesota, than the Twins would be wise to let him go since he isn’t anywhere close to being worth that much. They could sign someone like Josh Willingham instead who could take Cuddyer’s corner outfield position.
T28C
If the Phillies sign Grady Sizemore the will have a great team if the sign Michael Cuddyer they will have a great bench from signing Jim Thome early last week if they get both witch is highly unlikely they have a awesome team there outfield could be LF Sizemore CF Victorino RF Pence that is set with speed and 2 out of the 3 have good bats and if Sizemore stays healthy and get back to his 20 HR 80 RBI self the will be practically unbeatable
Brian M
wow that was hard to read.

Sorry but don’t you agree

I think the Phillies will be among the best in the NL with or without making major additions. They win with pitching and they have plenty of it!

Michael Cuddyer isn’t a bench player. period.

I think Mackey may have gotten the wrong idea from Terry Ryan. I highly doubt that Plouffe will assume a STARTING ROLE next season. I think Ryan was just clearing room for Jamey Carroll by saying that Plouffe is now an outfield option. I don’t gather he is a suitable replacement for Michael Cuddyer at all, and I’d be shocked if the Twins front office didn’t feel the same.
