The Pirates designated catcher Brian Jeroloman for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot for Clint Barmes, according to the team. The Pirates had claimed Jeroloman off waivers from the Blue Jays on Friday.
Jeroloman, 26, hit .240/.335/.295 in 318 Triple-A plate appearances this year. Prior to the 2009 season, Baseball America praised Jeroloman for his defensive abilities.
Wow that was quick.
must be a bad attitude *sarcasm
good move this time of year it would be real hard for team to give this guy a 40 man spot
Wouldn’t surprise me to see Toronto pick him back up, ala the Kibrall carousel.
Doubt it..C Travis D’Arnaud moved onto 40-man roster…he should be playing AAA this season for Toronto. D’Arnaud was Eastern League (AA) player of the year this past season.
I’m not suggesting he would replace D’Arnaud because D’Arnaud will be a stud one day. The Jays do require a back up in AAA and Jeroloman would be perfect if they could again try and sneak him through waivers.
Jays have two open spots on their 40-man roster. They don’t have to sneak Jeroloman through waivers.
In my opinion, they let Jeroloman go because D’Arnaud is already better than him. If Arencibia gets injured, D’Arnaud can easily get called up because he already is on the 40-man roster.
Not sure if Vegas has a backup Catcher or not but I think Matty was sugesting was D’Anaurds backup in AAA.
Also, the reason for sneaking him through is so you don’t have to waste a spot on the 40 man for a 3rd string catcher. Those last 2 spots are left open on purpose for other potential claims or FA signings.
There will be guys out there that lose their spot because of Jose Reyes or Jimmy Rollins or even Furcal is decent but this guy loses his spot to Clint Barmes
Bad move. They should have designated Andrew McCutchen instead.
I think BA praised him before the season. His stats for throwing out base runners were absolutely atrocious this year. 91 SB and 15 CS (15%)
Why did they claim him in the first place? He’s not that great at all. Not only that, but he owes me $50 from a couple of years ago. Good riddence…
