Cardinals fans may be uncomfortable with the news that the Marlins will meet with Albert Pujols within the next few days. However, St. Louis’ managerial search appears to be progressing smoothly. Here are the details…
- Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch hears the Cardinals have yet to adjust their offer to Pujols (Twitter links). Jon Heyman of SI.com has reported that the team offered nine years and "a bit more than $200MM" before the season.
- Mike Matheny has emerged as a leading possibility to manage the Cardinals in 2012 and beyond, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Some in the baseball industry believe Matheny is the frontrunner, but Rosenthal doesn't like the idea of teams hiring managers who don't have much managing and coaching experience.
- Strauss suggests the Cardinals will complete their managerial search “very soon.”

I understand where you are coming from 100 per cent. I quit the Cardinals over a decade ago when I was siting in the upper deck with the “greatest fans in baseball” when I heard one tell the other, who agreed with him, I could care less if we win or lose just as long as I get to see Big Mac launch one”

As much as I like to think that every Cardinals fan is a true fan of the sport and is entrenched in the team’s success, we must understand that isn’t true. We have to think more along the lines of what proportion of fans at the game truly love the team and the sport. At Wrigley I’d say 75% of the people there could care less about the outcome and just want to get drunk. On the other hand, I think fans there for reasons other than the game itself are the minority at Busch Stadium, and the fans who do care are quite passionate. I believe that is why we are deemed “The Best Fans in Baseball”. There are idiots everywhere.

I can tell what kind of fan you are by your user name…back your opinion up with something other than emotional ties. And guys, I hate to tell you, but there’s this thing call Free Agency that’s come about since Stan played ball. You dont pay a player for what they’ve done in the past; you pay them for what they’ll due in the future.

I think Francona would be my personal fav for the manager of the St. Louis, Cardinals. However, we will see next week what we get. Cross your fingers and toes for Francona.

I don’t care, I’m sick of all the players ending up on the teams that have the largest markets in the end and I’m sick of players like Prince Fielder who already have an exit strategy in mind, knowing they are going to leave a city and a team despite being competitive. the economics in baseball is screwed up enough as it is, I hope that Pujols isn’t all about the money, I’d like to believe that, and hope it to be true. He’s the face of the franchise and needs to play his career here. We aren’t a triple A team for superstars to play here and then go to the big markets seeking money and fame, it will be a huge punch in the face to Cardinal Nation to let a guy just walk, and for money of all things.
