The Marlins have designated Alfredo Amezaga for assignment, according to Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post (via Twitter). The 33-year-old had an OPS of just .345 in 20 games with the Marlins.
Florida acquired Amezaga from the Rockies roughly a month ago for minor league infielder Jesus Merchan. At the time, the veteran was excited to get another chance with his former club, but the reunion was short-lived. Amezaga played four seasons for the Marlins from 2006 through 2009.

Dumb. How can they hope to compete in the East now?

It’s amazing how long they held him in the name of versatility. Hitting like the bat boy while playing five different positions doesn’t make you a good use of a roster spot.

but it once was. at least when AlfieA at least could hit like a GOOD boy. bummer about injuries. that one year in FLA, playing centre and anywhere else, he could have helped so many teams down the stretch

Not really. His career best OPS+ is 79. He ended up on the Marlins because he couldn’t even stick with the Angels, a team that will pick notional defensive value over bat more than anyone. The fact is a guy like this is only useful because the current trend is to stock way too many pitchers, which means you have no bench.

true. just saying Alfie had a great mini-run and when a team with the possibility can catch lightning in a bottle … Alfie ‘coulda been a contendah’ Not exact same, but similar: see Ross, Cody. See Giants, SF.

wait! 2 more things.
A/ be vewy, vewy careful about extending bottled lightning
B/ the Angels have more money than smarts. they coulda used Alfie!

I doubt that even he thinks he is as good as you think he is.
