The Braves have designated Matt Young for assignment, reports MLB.com's Mark Bowman (on Twitter). The move frees up a 40-man roster spot for Kris Medlen, who was activated off the 60-day DL.
Young, 28, hit just .208/.269/.229 in 52 plate appearances with Atlanta this year. He played all three outfield spots and second base, but spent most of the year in Triple-A, where he hit .273/.372/.347 with 17 steals and nearly as many walks (57) as strikeouts (59). Medlen is coming off Tommy John surgery, and he could provide some relief to a bullpen that features three pitchers with 76 or more appearances.

Here is one…
Everytime I see this name, think of one of the worst FA signings Boston ever made…
Boston signed a “talented” LHP by this name one time, thought he had just lost 18 games the year before and had lost *19* games also in another season.. The guy also got 2.5m way back in 1991 for his efforts, actually 5m for 2 seasons.
He always pitched just good enough to lose for some reason and remember him well. He stank royally and as recall.. Was really coveted on the FA market, though he had just went 8-18 when Boston gave him that 2/5m deal.
Thanks Dan Duquette for signing this horrendous guy and maybe this Matt Young will stay gone so will not remember that other pile of rubbish that had a 55-95 career mark ever again..
Rant over ;-(
