Troy Renck of the Denver Post took some time to answer questions from his followers on Twitter just now. Renck touches on a lot of offseason topics for the Rox, so let's take a look (all links to Renck's Twitter):
- If traded, Jason Giambi would prefer to go to the Phillies, but he isn't looking to get traded and would likely be claimed before Philadelphia got a chance at him. Giambi would like to return to the Rockies next season, and Renck sees it happening.
- It's been well-documented that the Rockies would like to add a bat at third base or in the outfield, and Renck says that Michael Cuddyer will be the team's top target in free agency.
- Eric Young Jr. has shown value, but doesn't fit the club unless he's playing second base, according to Renck. Young could be traded, while Ian Stewart will likely be non-tendered.
- Renck predicts that the Opening Day rotation will consist of Jhoulys Chacin, Alex White, Esmil Rogers, and two veterans. Jorge de la Rosa, Juan Nicasio and/or Drew Pomeranz could join the mix in May. Renck notes that De La Rosa is ahead of schedule in his rehab from Tommy John surgery.
- Kevin Millwood, who currently has a 4.26 ERA in four starts (25 1/3 innings) for the Rockies, could be one of those veterans, but on a minor league deal.

I don’t understand why the Phillies just didn’t trade for Giambi at the deadline. I know he was on the DL but he could have just rehabbed in the minors and gotten his at bats that way. Would have been a great addition.
I mean maybe they just couldn’t reach an agreement but from what people were saying… before Giambi went on the DL him to Philly was pretty much a done deal.

You can’t trade a player on the DL.

In MLB: The Show you can’t. You can in real life.

I’d love to see Cuddyer out in RF. Smith could be moved to acquire a decent SP. I don’t want David Wright unless he would be extended or at the very least excercise his option for 2013. The Rockies have plenty of options, and can still circle back to Wandy Rodriguez as well. They’ll have a ton of new pieces next year if they can actually follow through with the recent rumors.

Fowler has a 900 OPS since adding a leg kick in mid july, hopefully this spells the end of his trips to AAA. Stewart needs to get a change of scenery, that 2003 draft is a crazy mix of disappointments Ian Stewart #4 prospect in MLB pre-2005, Brandon Wood #3 prospect pre-2006, Aaron Hill peaked at #64 but after hitting .290 with 66 XBH as a 25YO his future looked bright, Delmon Young #1 Prospect in MLB pre-2006, Lastings Milledge, Conor Jackson, Daric Barton, Matt Murton even success stories like Saltalamachia, Adam Jones, Chad Cordero, Markakis, Quentin have either fallen off or had long stretches of disappointing production.
