Links for Thursday, as Yogi Berra celebrates his birthday (number 86!) along with current players Evan Meek (28), Felipe Lopez (31) and Wes Helms (35)…
- Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rendon and Bubba Starling remain atop Keith Law's latest ranking of the top 100 draft prospects. Law says Starling could be "the single most talented player in this draft."
- MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo also has some info about draft prospects, including promising Kentucky right-hander Alex Meyer.
- Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports says this isn't the year the Cubs win the World Series.
- At ESPN.com, Casey Stengel tops David Schoenfield's list of the ten greatest managers in baseball history.
- A few St. Louis Post-Dispatch baseball writers weigh in on the Ryan Theriot acquisition. Bernie Miklasz says the Cardinals acquired the infielder to be an upgrade on offense and increase the team's toughness.

This isn’t the year the Cubs win the World Series? That’s going out on a limb isn’t it?
Dude Solarsystem
Waste Helms is only 35? He looks more like 47.

Morosi says the Cubs won’t win the World Series in 2011. I wonder where he bought his crystal ball.

Morosi is also reporting that the sun rises in the east.

Doesn’t need a crystal ball since it is 101 and counting.

Getting Ryan Theriot to toughen your team?….uh….interesting.

I don’t know who Paul Morosi is, but I am pretty sure I will never read anything he writes again. A 3 year old could have came up with that idea.

Anyone know where Meyer is on the list of draft prospects? Rumors were he turned down a signing bonus over $1M. I gotta think Theo will try to get him again.

Theriot was kind of disappointing in LA last year replacing DeWitt, but DeWitt wasn’t the same 2008/2009 guy either. Hawksworth, however, has worked out well for the Dodgers so all in all besides picking up Lilly, it’s been a good flip.

“…as Yogi Berra celebrates his birthday (number 86!) along with current players Evan Meek (28), Felipe Lopez (31) and Wes Helms (35)…”
Goes to show, regardless of your birth date, not everybody can be Yogi Berra.

if there’s one nitty-gritty baseball man I’d want to see rank the all-time top managers of this game, it’s David Schoenfield

I really hope the Mariners land Anthony Rendon, he fits their needs so bad it hurts.

That last bullet might be the most hilarious thing this Cub’s fan has read all day. Theriot is only an offensive upgrade over Aaron Miles. He is only a toughness upgrade over a field mouse.
