Six years ago today, Robinson Cano made his MLB debut. Since then, all he's done is hit .309/.346/.493, make two All-Star teams, club 124 home runs and help the Yankees win another World Series. Here are today's links, as Cano and the Yankees take on the Tigers…
- As Paul Hagen of the Philadelphia Daily News explains, the Phillies' roster now has far more Latin American players than it did two-plus decades ago, when current third base coach Juan Samuel was still playing.
- Mariners president Chuck Armstrong told Peter Gammons of MLB.com that the M's have no intention of trading the defending Cy Young winner. "It's ridiculous when people talk about our trading Felix," Armstrong said. "We have Felix [Hernandez] and [Michael] Pineda for five years. Why would we move either one?"
- As Yahoo's Jeff Passan explains, the 9-18 Twins could use former teammate Mike Redmond and his… unconventional way of busting out of slumps.
- Giants manager Bruce Bochy acknowledged that he and GM Brian Sabean have discussed promoting Brandon Belt back to the Major Leagues, according to Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News.

that makes sense. sabean doesn’t want to bring up Belt until he’s sure there are no over-the-hill veterans out there that can do the job for 20x the money on a 3 year deal.

I think he would rather wait and see if Belt will cool down to Tejada levels before calling him up again. Who really wants a guy hitting .519 at AAA.

Well, I think a lot of us Twins fans wish Red Dog was a coach for us in some way. I have since he left. I love that guy and he said his time with the Twins was his favorite time in MLB.

Who is Felix Hernandez? For the life of me, I can’t recall his name.

I would have never sent Belt back down to begin with. His defense was a plus and he can get on base for the Giants. I understand Belt was sent down because Ross came off the DL but Ross has done nothing just like I predicted. To many giants fans look at him as a game changing hitter. Theres a reason why the marlins got rid of him for nothing last season, he is a decent player not an impact bat the Giants once again need. If they promote Belt again he will have even more pressure on him since the giants offense is horrible. Giants would be better off trading for a bat and bring Belt up later in the year. What are they going to do if they promote Belt and he struggles? Demote him again?

Belt was sent down as much to acclimate to the OF and let Huff go back to 1B than anything about his start. Huff is a disaster anywhere but 1B, and Ross gives the team a couple elements Belt couldn’t offer at the time, defensive flexibility since he can play all 3 OF positions easily, and a track record of being a consistent 15+ home run hitter at a park bigger than AT&T

They had too many players. Somebody had to go down.

Is it really surprising that the Phillies have more L.A. players now than 20 years ago? Scouting and player development is so much better nowadays.

So let me get this straight….the Mariners aren’t trading Felix Hernandez? I am not convinced, lets make more dumb trade scenarios…..
