Already in the cellar in your fantasy league? Try DraftStreet, where you can put together a new fantasy team every night and compete against other users for real money.
Right now DraftStreet has a freeroll for MLB Trade Rumors readers, meaning you can take a shot at a chunk of the $250 prize pool for free, with no strings attached. Here's how it works.
The MLBTR freeroll is for Friday night's games, so you have until then to create your team. You're given a $100K salary cap, and each player is assigned a price by DraftStreet. For example, Felix Hernandez is considered the most valuable player since he starts Friday night against the White Sox, but he'll cost you over $15K. Your roster will cover these positions: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, 3 OF, 2 utility, 2 SP, 1 RP, 1 P and 2 Reserves (14 starters). You get points based on how your team performs Friday. For example, you'll get 0.75 points for each strikeout Felix racks up and 1.5 points if he gets the win. The teams with the most points get the prize money. You can apply all kinds of strategy in building your roster – for example, check out the chance of rain at Camden Yards tomorrow before you decide to add Orioles and Rays. Below I've taken a screenshot of a roster in progress:
If you're interested, sign up and create a roster prior to Friday's night games (6:05pm central time). It's quick, easy, fun, and the MLBTR league gives you a free chance to win some of the $250 prize pool. If you enjoy the competition you can try other leagues for free and earn credits, or deposit real money.

I have a stong feeling I will gamble my life away on this site!!!

I thought I paid $1.99 to not see advertisement on the MLB app?
Kevin Chambers
I think this is special, obviously is because you see it on the main page as an article not on the side as an add.
martinfv2
I don’t think there’s a way to stop the app from receiving all the site’s posts, regardless of whether one is sponsored once in a while. But, we don’t have plans to put banner ads in the app if that’s what you mean.
Speaking of the iPhone app, we have some upgrades to it that will be coming within a few months.
Jeff McCoy
Well, at least it’s baseball related. If I ever read, “Has that latest losing streak caused you to pull out your hair? Well then, step up to the plate try Rogaine’s foaming spray! It’s a homerun,” I’m out.
David X
There’s a future for you in copywriting, my friend.
braves in 08
i just registered a team…its pretty cool actually
phoenix2042
do you have to pay for it?
Patrick B
The MLBTR league is free… some other “leagues” on the site are free too… some you pay for…

Question: How is this appreciably different from online poker? In both, you put down money to win cash prizes in a game that’s a mixture of skill and luck.
The government just cracked down on online poker and shut it down. Now I see pay to play fantasy baseball for cash prizes springing up like crazy. Coincidence?
Keith Lawyer
These have been springing up long before the poker sites were shut down.

First I have to hear a 30 second ad everytime I come on in the top right of the site; then to see the MLBTR chat I have to watch a 35 second ad and it freezes every 5 seconds which makes it more like a minute; now it’s actually being put into the posts. I hope this doesn’t become a regular, will it?
martinfv2
Hard to say the future of sponsored posts. If you are getting audio from the video ad please contact us, that’s a mistake. I do want to improve the chat situation, and our provider has said that they will have some better alternatives in late July.

Oh what the almighty dollar will do to a man. Tim, you’ve become quite the sellout in the past few years, but I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same.
martinfv2
I guess so, but like I said we’ve had sponsored posts from day 1, so it’s more like I started as quite the sellout?
jwsox
God forbid tim and the rest of his staff try to make a buck or two for all the hard work they put in on this site. I mean come on how many times have we seen a story such as a trade ora signing break on this site before the mainstream media? I check MLBTR every day and have for the past 2 years now, and I have never seen/ heard a story break on ESPN, comcast sports, FSN, espn radio, yahoo, nbc sports, or even 670 the score(local chicago sports radio channel which is legit when it comes to sports) before I have read it on this site. I knew about both peavy to the whitesox deals before i even heard it on 670 the score and they are the “whitesox radio station”( speaking of 670 the score…time you should do an interview either on boers and berinstein or on the danny mac show some time seeing as you are a local guy)
This site is amazing and gives us baseball fanatics a place to relax and escape from the day, and not have to be annoyed by the east coast bias from ESPN, or having to listen to chris berman yell all day. It allows us to speak our minds and play GM all day every day(even though 99% of the time we are all wrong)
How many times have you seen a story with a time signature of midnight or later. These guys and gals devote their lives to this site. Yes they may have day jobs, but any and all of their free time is spent researching and writing for this site. And I think all the writers deserve our respect for that first off(we may not agree all the time but thats the glory of sports we are all right and all wrong.) And second if they want to make some money in the process, without sacrificing what makes this site great, then so be it, they all deserve it.
I say congrats for making a website and an iPhone app, that has become popular enough to make money off of while keeping you integrity
@mlbtrdisadmin:disqus
…seriously good jobto you and the rest of the staff and keep it up!
gillyspy
So on this draftsheet thing it says ‘ The teams with the most points get the prize money. ‘ does that mean that if you are tied with a couple other teams that you will split it?
Nevertheless
The site is now worse than it used to be.
One day there will be more ads than news and someone else will make a new, better site.
Ben_Cherington
well as it turns out no one makes your come here! If you dont like it either A, stop coming or B, make your own “better site”
SMB
I played it last week. Not a bad game but it can be a bit confusing. But with the right strategy you can have a pretty nice line up.
elclashcombo
I dont use the mobile app so I dont have issue with the ads. There are ads embedded on many posts anyway (that’s how you pay the bills). But, from an advertiser’s point of view I think Tim should disable comments for paid posts. Id hate to shell out money for an ad only to see the target audience rip it to shreds, warranted or unwarranted.
z3rogs
I think ads do not belong in with the main posts. That crosses the line.
Remember, you brought us all here with your excellent, free posts. We will not stay if you change your format. Most of us a fickle and we will drop you in a heartbeat if we can’t get what we want from this site.
Ben_Cherington
Dear Tim,
you suck for not catering to me! You suck for trying to make money! Your site sucks for adds,
“…we will drop you in a heartbeat if we can’t get what we want from this site.”
-.0001% of MLBTR users
In all seriousness Tim,
If I have to read an occasional add (like I do on every other website) then so be it as long as I get to read the most up to date rumors!! Youre the man, and this site is far and away the best! Keep up the good work
The Big Clayboski
At least he identified this as a paid advertisement, a big improvement over the MLB2K Front Office ad that he put up a couple years ago.
Mr_Anderson1017
Oh man, that is still the worst game I’ve ever played!
JacksTigers
Is this going to keep coming back to the top of the page or what?
Mr_Anderson1017
Why do people hate these ads so much? I don’t even notice the banner ones, just scroll past them without a glance. Maybe the “post ads” should only be there if Tim really endorses them or something, but this thing looks somewhat interesting and some MLBTR ppl would probably be interested in it so what’s the big problem? If you aren’t interested keep scrolling. Other than having to watch an ad to join the live chat we don’t have to sit through any ads or pay a fee. We have it pretty good at this site, isn’t that why everyone keeps coming back?
And concerning the app, sorry this ad appeared but that’s what happens when it’s a post. We should be glad there aren’t banners all over that thing, although the app has some problems. Correct me if I’m wrong, but when you scroll to the bottom of the page that’s all you can see, you can’t see older posts? And you can’t search for topics or look at post by team? I know you’re doing your best though.
