Aside from signing Ryan Braun through 2020, the Brewers announced a series of transactions today. Catcher George Kottaras was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville, leaving the team's 40-man roster at 38. Also, Mike McClendon was optioned, LaTroy Hawkins was reinstated, and Zack Greinke's rehab assignment will continue Sunday for the Nashville Sounds.

These moves leave the 25 man roster at 24… What else is in play here? Does braun’s new contract require its own roster spot?
Dustin Reichwald
Nicely played, sir.

Wouldn’t the 25th spot go back to Greinke or is he already on the 25 man roster again?

He’s on the DL for probably another ten days. Nashville is our AAA affiliate, he’s scheduled to make two more rehab starts before he’s reinstated

Barry Bonds’ bats had their own locker, why not Braun’s contract?

I wouldn’t be that surprised to see Kottaras resign with the Red Sox, just as another option for them, post-Saltalamachia, until they figure out something long term.

What’s the difference between DFAing someone and just outrighting them? I know you outright someone after you DFA them, but why do some guys get outrighted and not DFAed first?

DFA is when a team has 10 days to trade, release, or outright a player. Outrighting is just removing them from the 40 man roster and sending them down to the minors.
