Links from around the majors as Armando Galarraga makes Arizona's rotation…
- One scout tells Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that every team is kicking the tires on bullpen help, back-of-the-rotation starters, utility players and backup catchers (Twitter link).
- Scouts break down former Padres, current Padres, and other West Coast teams for Tom Krasovic of Inside the Padres. One scout says there's "no doubt" that Cameron Maybin can play center field in spacious Petco park.
- Top Pirates prospects Stetson Allie, Jameson Taillon and Tony Sanchez have little in common off of the field, but are looking forward to making an impact in Pittsburgh, writes Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Juan Castro? I know he’s not Cal Ripken or anything, but he’s serviceable and always gets called up at some point. Dee Gordon’s no where near ready and DeJesus has pretty much been moved to 2nd, so if LA has him ticketed for ALB as anticipated, as crazy as it sounds, they’d really need something convincing for him. All this of course if he’s even under a contract that keeps him if he doesn’t make LA roster.

Speaking of the Padres, does anyone have any idea who or when the PTBNL in the Barttlet deal to the Padres is going to be named. It is supposed to happen before opening day, which at least there should be some indication of who the Rays are sending.

I’ve been wondering the same thing for awhile as well

I’m with you and AirmanSD.
TB still owes the PTBNL to the Padres as part of the Bartlett-for-bullpen deal.
The Padres have an open spot on the 25 man roster.
They will see what TB gives them and fill the roster spot according to need.
When this player arrives in the SD camp, a few others already there may be
in line for a promotion, a demotion or an unconditional release.
It depends on the PTBNL.
I think the rules state that the player comes from a list of 5 names the Rays
provide for the Padres to pick one.
I doubt the Padres will see anything earthshaking to pick from.
I’m sure Jed and the Rays’ GM are discussing this very topic.

For any team looking for a utility guy I woul like to remind them that Mike Macoy is in Toronto!

Maybin can play center field, but he can’t swing a bat in the major leagues…

I’ve just done reading that scouting piece and that was one of the most interesting things I’ve seen on here in a while. Even though it was a bunch of guys opinions, scouting still means a lot and it’s very insightful to hear how all these players are doing. I’d love to see something like this again.

Maybin will be fine this trade is going to be looked at as i giant mistake for Florida.

Did anyone else get a queasy feeling with this article, specifically the words “Luis Cruz” and “Pittsburgh Pirates” so close to each other under “Categories”?
