The Pirates claimed Garrett Olson off of waivers from the Mariners, the teams have announced.
Olsen, 27, posted a 4.54 ERA with 7.4 K/9, 3.6 BB/9 and a 37.1% ground ball rate in 37 2/3 innings of relief for the Mariners last year. It was his second season in Seattle after two seasons with the Orioles, the organization that drafted him in the first round of the 2005 draft.
Olson figures to compete with Joe Beimel and Scott Olsen for left-handed relief jobs in manager Clint Hurdle's bullpen once he arrives in Pirates camp. Kirby Arnold of the Daily Herald first reported the claim.
“The Pirates claimed Garrett Olson off of waivers from the Pirates, according to Kirby Arnold of the Daily Herald.”
…
Might want to change the Top sentence Ben.
“The Pirates claimed Garrett Olson off of waivers from the Pirates”
delete this when done if you will. King of typos here is me anyway 😉
Pirates claim Mariners lefty Garrett Olson. 😉
In related news: I gave myself a dollar today.
He was claimed from the Mariners.
At first I thought it was a jab at the M’s. Some would say both teams are very much alike.
My wish came true! We have the Olsen Twins!!!!
That was your wish?
Hey…can’t wish for them to win the division. If you wish small, every single thing seems like a big deal.
Maybe the mariners should wish for some cork bats….ANYTHING to hit the ball with!
I’m not gonna lie, on the last board the comment about the Olsen twins was one of the funniest I’ve ever read on these boards. Then the signing actually happened, and all I can do is shake my head.
Not a bad pickup, I think he’s better than Scott Olsen, for what it’s worth. Fire up the Olsen Twins promos!
“think he’s better than Scott Olsen, for what it’s worth.”
I think you are in for an horrible surprise.
So the teams have to work out a trade now, right? Or is Olsen automatically a Pirate?
As an M’s fan I don’t think McCutchen is too much to ask in return for a former first rounder.
Andrew or Dan?
I would love to hear his agents phone call,::Agent:: “Good news Garrett, you were claimed by another team, you are no longer a Mariner!” ::Garrett:: “Awesome, I can finally go to a team that has a chance to compete and maybe I can win more games” ::Agent:: “Uh Garrett….Your a Pirate….” ::Garrett:: “……”
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
It’s funny because the Pirates are BAD.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
Look around – perhaps you might find another barrel of fish to shoot at. Like the Mets.
It would be awesome if he went from the Mariners to the Pirates and then to the Mets, I would be all over it, especially if he was then traded to the Orioles, he would be an around the world bad team player, its the ultimate baseball player hell.
WOOT! NL Central title, here we come!!!
Playoffs wooh wooh!
Five other teams say “Not so fast.”
they would…
