Outfielder Randy Winn asked for and was granted his unconditional release, according to an Orioles press release. Winn was one of eight cuts made today, as Nolan Reimold was optioned to Triple-A while Clay Rapada, Mark Hendrickson, David Riske, Ryan Drese, Pat Egan, and Nick Green were assigned to minor league camp. As previously noted, Hendrickson and Riske can opt out. The Orioles currently have 39 players on their 40-man roster and 28 in camp.
Winn, 36, hit .239/.307/.356 in 233 plate appearances for the Yankees and Cardinals last year, tallying 401 outfield innings. He signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in early February.

I guess this is the end for Winn. I liked him even though he didn’t play on any of my fave teams. Traded for a manager. He can tell that to his grandkids.

how times have changed for the o’s.

too bad for winn… reimold again optioned to aaa he 27 and hes ready for the majors. the orioles need to bring him up at least for back up…. as for green, hendrickson, rapada, riske, drese they did horrible got beat up in spring training…
Rabbitov
No the Orioles need to bring up Reimold when he has a chance to get the at bats he needs.

I too tried to erase all memories from last season, but Reimold was terrible in both the majors and AAA. He gave them little reason to hand him the LF job this year.
If he puts up numbers at AAA, they’ll move Vlad or Scott and find him regular at bats, or he’ll fill in when someone is injured.
Until then, he needs regular playing time and there is little to be gained from watching Luke and Vlad at this point in his career.

I bet the Dodgers give him a call.

How much?

Thought maybe Reimold had a chance to make the roster. Seemed to have a decent spring.
Rabbitov
Reimold has options, Pie does not.
Pie has injury history as does Lee and Vlad.
Optioning Reimold was simple GMing, keep all your players and know that Reimold is the first one up if Scott, Pie, Vlad, or Lee go down.

Please don’t come back to the NL West, Randy.

In this case, Winn doesn’t WIN.

Winn was a pretty good player who never played on a team that was ready to do anything big.
Before he ended up in Seattle, I was hoping he might find his way to the Yanks. He was never a star but a versatile guy who would’ve made a very good complimentary starter. Unfortunately, by the time he got to NY, he had very little left.
No real reason to feel sad for him, though. He made 40+ million, so he should have a few dollars to spend in retirement.

Randy has been a solid player for many years. We loved him in San Francisco. Good luck to a fine player and an honorable one-much needed these days.
