Notes from the NL Central as we wish the best of luck to all those affected by the earthquake in Japan…
- Brewers reliever Takashi Saito won't have to return to Japan, since his family has been safely accounted for, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy (on Twitter).
- Outfielder Brett Jackson headlines MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo's list of the top 10 prospects in the Cubs organization.
- Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times shows that the Cubs–White Sox rivalry doesn't seem fierce now, since White Sox GM Kenny Williams supports the Cubs and Cubs GM Jim Hendry has nice things to say about the White Sox.
- Baseball writers at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch weigh in on the following question: will Albert Pujols play even better than usual in 2011? The Cardinals slugger is months away from hitting free agency for the first time in his career.
What was going on with Saito’s family?
It’s kind of all the headlines.

Ok, I really should have made that connection. Thanks.
really?
earthquake in tokyo
So sad, hopefully the toll doesn’t reach the projected 1,000. Makes baseball seem like such a silly, meaningless game.
I can assure you the the death toll will go well above 1,000, sadly.
Okay its gone down. Thank god for that.
ITS MY MONEY… AND I WANT PUJOLS… NOWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!
im a mets fan. and this is it. sell teh darn team Wilpons… get a move on it. sell it to Trump, or Cuban so we have plenty of dough to bring in pujols before its too late. then we can snag CC from the yanks by outbidding them. then we can go outbid and snag Prince fielder away and stash him for interleague games as our DH. Hmmm… who else could we snatch away and buy? just to sock it to the yanks.
too bad Jeter already signed… we coulda snagged him away by offering like 30Mil a year… just so he retires.
You should see a doctor…
Dice K and Okijima might have to return to Japan if there family’s are not ok, hope Japan recovers from the disaster.
the quake couldnt have happened in a worse part of japan. right near tokyo. Death toll is going to be massive
It’s good to hear that Saito’s family is safe, if only we could say the same for all of the Japanese people right now.
So Pujols is basically due to cure cancer this year?
