The Blue Jays acquired infielder Jayson Nix from the Indians for cash considerations, according to a tweet from the team. The Jays will have to find a spot for Nix on the 25-man roster or risk losing him to a waiver claim or free agency. They found a spot on the 40-man by placing Jesse Carlson on the 60-day DL.
Nix, 28, hit .224/.281/.396 with 14 home runs in 363 plate appearances for the White Sox and Indians last year, playing mostly second and third base. He was in the mix this spring for a backup infield job with the Tribe, but Adam Everett won that battle. It became clear yesterday that the Indians would try to trade him.

They saw the Red Sox picking up McKenry and just had to one-up the Red Sox. Those sly minxes.
JacksTigers
And at the end of the day, the Red Sox get no one and the Jays get Nix.
JacksTigers
The Blue Jays are now the front runners to win the 2011 World Series.
grownice
This only works when the Yankees make depth moves, Blue Jays are expected to finish 3rd-5th lol
Matt
That’s going to end in 2012!
grownice
I don’t disagree! Go Jays!
paul_oneills_lovechild
love your avatar, dude…”Now get your fat booty over here!”
Tony Forbes
So… um… why?

Bautista’s starting in right field, and Lawrie’s going to the minors, so they needed a backup for Encarnacion.
bluejaycountry
that’s what mccoy and mcdonald were there for. unless mccoy is getting mcdemoted.
RanceMulliniks
I can’t believe they’re going to play E5 at 3B. Here’s hoping Lawrie comes back up soon! I thought Rivera in RF and Bautista at 3B made more sense to start the season.
Mark S
Rivera is as bad in RF as E5 is at 3B.
Lloyd Parsons
Rivera with no arms and legs cant be worse than E5 at third. Heaven help Lind.
Cue the highlight real
OKGOJAYS85
I still believe that Rivera in RF for ST was in order to showcase him as a fielder and try to get something in a trade for him. Bautista was curiously always listed as a OF’er on their active roster I have to think this was the plan all along but kept quiet about it so they could work a trade.
iains
Hmm.. not sure of the point of this one
iains
Think I answered my own question. Former first rounder who put up some nice numbers in the PCL … so might be upside.
Chris
I’m surprised that Nix didn’t start this year at 3B for the tribe. He’s a better option then Jack Hannahan and Adam Everett. I guess it really doesn’t matter because Lonnie Chisenhall is going to take over this year.
sleepyjesus
He’s terrible defensively, and the Indians have a lot of young pitchers who need to benefit from good defense

Future trade in the works? Is there any elite 2B prospects out there?
Lunchbox45
And put Aaron hill in the rotation?
Oliver Björnsson
This is hopefully keeping Mike McCoy off the major league roster.
explodet
Because he has no defensive versatility, is slow, and has terrible minor league offensive numbers that indicate zero upside, right?
sadp
Apparently this is because Cory Patterson is going on the DL.
Matt
Carlson is put on the 60 day DL to make this move
sadp
No, I mean the reason for acquiring Nix, not the roster move that allows them to make it.
grownice
Decent depth move , considering when Patterson comes back from DL he’ll likely replace McCoy.
Lunchbox45
And when pods returns he ‘ll relieve patterson
grownice
If im Patterson im hoping Pods wife Relieves me instead.
Chris Bosh
Why would Patterson hope Pods wife relieves you?
grownice
“If im Patterson”
Chris Bosh
Ahhh, my bad.
PJaysW
From a PR, late defensive replacement standpoint Patterson>Podsednik
Jarrett Pt
No one is going to replace Johnny Mac. Best utility man the league has ever seen, great guy too. Let’s hope Nix can bring something to the table.
BlueJaysFTW
Best utility man? lol. Horrible, horrible bat. But ya best. Wouldn’t mind it at all if we got rid of him. Would take 3 other bench guys on our team before him to come in.
OKGOJAYS85
I disagree, he is ++defender. Also since everyone uses this way to project EE’s numbers/potential for this season, if Johnny Mac was given 600 at bats last season he would have projected out to, 108 runs, 152 hits, 92 Rbi’s, and 24HR’s. Doesn’t sound that bad now does he. I realize this is not a scientific way to project stats but he makes for a great utility guy.
mozelpuffski
sorry Rance yet again you are wrong. that is why you are no longer in the booth fyi…
RanceMulliniks
too true – i just read the Bautista to RF, so edited my post. still can’t really believe it. E5. yuck.
mozelpuffski
sorry rance, yet again you are wrong… at least you know why you were fired.
mozelpuffski
BOOO stupid thing not letting me reply to Rance!
mozelpuffski
this sucks! cant reply to ppl!
Sniderlover
Better than McCoy I guess. Unless Patterson is injured to start the year, the bench will be Patterson, McDonald, Molina and Nix.
kipnis4040
i like this pick up for toronto and this drop for cleveland. they needed the room. and nix has potential to be a casey blake type.

plAyoffs!!!!
Andrew
Not trying to say Nix is going to be anything like Bautista, but this is the exact same way we got Jose and the same general feeling of “oh just another move”. Nix is decent right now but you never know what can happen.
mhunke
Hopefully this allows Hill to focus on actually being HEALTHY, maybe going on the DL. I’m tired of watching him play injured, its sickening. Especially to Brandon Morrow.
