Let's check out a few items concerning the Yankees and Mets..
- Yankees people continue to hear from friends of Andy Pettitte that they think the 38-year-old will pitch this year, tweets Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Of course, there's still no word from Pettitte himself on the matter.
- As expected, Mets principal owner Fred Wilpon, COO Jeff Wilpon and team president Saul Katz met with commissioner Bud Selig today to talk about the team's finances, writes Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. On Friday the club announced that they are looking to sell 20 to 25 percent of the team in order to give themselves a cushion against any settlement that comes from the Bernie Madoff case.
- Mike Piazza, who earned more than $120MM over the course of his major league career, says he isn't interested in buying a share of the club right now, according to Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork.com.
- Nick Swisher isn't concerned about the Yankees' pitching woes, writes Marc Carig of the Newark Star-Ledger.

Of course Swisher’s not concerned, have you seen his ERA?

Are these the same friends of Pettitte who were sure he was retiring about 6 weeks ago?

I was waiting on a train once in Brooklyn and saw this guy wearing a Yankees cap so I had to ask. “Are you Andy Pettitte?”, said I. “Yes”, said he. “O, Cool”, I replied, and we went our separate ways.
Keeping that story in mind, I’m comfortable speaking as “a friend of Andy Pettitte” that he is pitching again next year, you may source me where you so choose.

This is so crazy. That was me. I am Andy Pettitte and I will……. (to be continued)
Slopeboy
That individual lied to you that wasn’t Andy Pettitte, Andy never rides trains in Brooklyn. He takes Buses.

Jeez guys let the guy have his day in the sun lol. As for the Yankees pitching problems they’ve had worse. Yeah they have ifs but ifs could end up being good or bad. I think that Burnett will have a better year then last year. I think he had less walks per 9 innings last year then in 09 to look on the bright side. They aren’t the only team with ifs. Beckett, Lackey and Dice-k aren’t a sure thing either but I’ll admit the Red Sox are better then the Yankees right now and this coming from a die hard Yankee fan but games also aren’t played on the field.

When Chipper retires and if a portion of the Mets are still for sale, I’m sure he could afford to buy at least 25% of the club if not more.
scluse
He already owns us statistically so why not financially?
MyPrivatePawnee
The Yankees official twitter feed announced that Andy Pettitte’s autograph session the week of Feb 13 is now canceled. Perhaps that means he’s going to Tampa.

Or it means it’s snowing. Again.

The end has finally come.

Do any real New York fans really want another 38 year old on his team? They keep making this news but sheesh let this one die folks, Pettite is 38 freaking years old and wants to be with his family, let him be, how about find out who their next pitcher could be, like in AAA or via trade or anyone in their YOUTH… Its like the Yanks will never win without Pettite and their whole existence relies on him throwing just one more season just one more buddy, you have it in you Andy, come one and admit you need us, we dont need you, but we want you and it would be nice to you know see you put on good ol number 46…. Its like the crazy ex girlfriend who said yeah we can still be friends, but you know will be psycho in every way before you have to get a restraining order and change your number to everything….

If Andy returns, and I think he will (if his competitive spirit had died the decision would have been made, but who knows) you have CC, Hughes, Andy, AJ and who knows, maybe Colon or Garcia (hey, he won 12 games last year). There are minor league pitching prospects to fill the last two holes. I don’t know why they don’t sign Kevin Millwood. He’s an innings guy and didn’t I read that he would like a chance to play for a good team again where he could win and even mention the Yankees? He’s rarely pitched lousy for a good team, is more games over .500 than AJ will ever be and is at least a dependable arm, 30 starts, 200 innings every year, and knows how to pitch. He’s been a # 1 or 2 starter before. How could he hurt? He made 10 mil last year and with no suitors yet and ST 2 weeks away, a heavily laden incentive contract may attract him to sign for just a few mil. If they signed Bart Colon, why wouldn’t you sign Millwood who at least has pitched in the last couple years.
