I'm writing a series of guest posts at FanGraphs, one of the first places baseball fans go for top analysis and stats. Today, I look ahead to the next crop of $100MM players and conclude that Albert Pujols and Adrian Gonzalez are far from the only ones with a shot at signing nine-figure contracts in the near future.
Robby Cano? Hummm
Robby Cano will be an interesting case.
Prince Fielder will get one too because Scott Boras is his agent and he always gets more for his players then they deserve.
youre right, and the idea of prince getting 100M+ makes me wanna puke
Get a time machine and learn how to play baseball.
ive been working on one, i just cant seem to locate a flux capacitor
Aww, you don’t see Yunileksy Betancourt making big money in F.A.?
I’m just purely speculating, I imagine Adrian Gonzalez gets a contract similar to Mark Teixeira except knowing Boston not sure if they would give him 8 years though.
They would have to match or better Tex’s contract. Either in salary or years, Gonzalez stated that he wanted market value . That means Tex money, I can’t see the Red Sox trying to nickel and dime him and risk losing him, as has happened with FA’s in the past.
Not entirely sure Prince will since the market may not be there for him especially in the American League.
I agree. Fielder’s money really depends on if he is seen as more of a DH option over 1b option next offseason. Let’s face it, being a premier DH vs. being a premier 1b means over $10 million a year.
Jared Weaver is a candidate if he has another good year. He is young enough and comparable to Verlander who got $80 million last year. It’s guaranteed money if he hit free agency.
Because they are young and starting pitching is so thin, King Felix, Cole Hamels and Tim Lincecum should pull down a $100 million contracts.
Although I agree, Felix is extended through 2014 already. Just sayin’.
Luckily for the Phils they have one more year to sign Hamels, by which time Oswalt will probably be retiring. They’d be in serious crunch-mode if not.
Sizemore and Reyes seem like outside shots at best. Bautista is such an odd bird, that I honestly have no idea. If his bat has another season like 2010 and he looks like he can stick at 3B, it’s a possibility.
