You've heard the Rangers' side: Michael Young requested a trade. You've heard Young's side: Texas "misled and manipulated" him. By now, you've heard the latest rumors, too. In case that's not enough, we have assembled some reactions and analysis on the situation…
- Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that some rival executives think the Rangers’ stance suggests they do not want to trade Young. But Rosenthal says Texas needs to trade Young soon.
- Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports and ESPN.com's Buster Olney break down the potential destinations for Young.
- Dave Cameron of FanGraphs argues that a Carlos Lee for Young swap makes more sense than other potential deals.
- But Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle says the deal "appears to be a no-go" for Houston, even if the Astros ship Lee to the Rangers.
- MLB.com's Jason Beck explains why Young isn't a fit in Detroit.

This is simply sad on all fronts hope a deal can happen and if not I hope the relationship can be healed.

Young for Zambrano, Lowe, or Kuroda make sense since the Rangers are looking for pitching. They all have big contracts
MadmanTX 2
I’d agree and take Big Z for MY because the money is close again, but I don’t know the Cubs well enough to know if they have a need for MY at any IF position?
Guest 7451
We could use him at 2b.
BlueSkyLA
Makes sense how? Kuroda is signed for one year, not three, and trading him blows a hole in the middle of carefully assembled rotation. No way is Colletti going to make a trade like that. Not a snowball’s chance.
slider32
Good point! You could go with Padilla.
BlueSkyLA
No chance. Colletti deliberately created depth in the rotation this year, something he didn’t have last year.
thegrayrace
Kuroda’s contract is a bargain compared to Lowe or Zambrano, so I don’t see anyway that happens.
Could Kuroda even be traded? I’d think considering he signed a one year deal at a discount to stay in L.A. there would be a no trade clause in there.
MadmanTX 2
Pretty good coverage of the topic. Apart from Lee for Young, I don’t see any other deal getting done that wouldn’t be imbalanced against the Rangers. I think the Rangers are going to end up trying to cool MY down somehow and keep him for the duration.
Derek The Red
Kazmir for Young + $ is another possibility.

If Carlos Zambrano didn’t have a no-trade clause, he’d be a Ranger right now.
slider32
I would think he would want to go to the Rangers, they are a contender and Cubs are not.
Guest 7450
Crazy enough, you’d think so….but he stays he’s staying put in Chicago because he’s just enrolled his kids in private schools. Yep that’s his reason…I suppose it makes sense….I suppose.

Sounds like Mike Hampton with the Mets.

Considering how many people in the US are being layed off, out of work, or struggling to make ends meet….I really struggle to find sympathy for Michael Young or the Texas Rangers..or any other player or team under similar circumstances. I appreciate a player wanting to be on the field. But let’s just have some perspective.
slider32
What’s that have to do with the price of tea in China. I’ve always wondered why tea costs the same as coffee when you go out for breakfest.
Dock_Elvis
Tea doesn’t seem like much of a breakfast option….unless you’re sipping it hot. My concern is that tea is usually the same price as Coke or Pepsi in a restaurant. It’s remarkable the number of people that we see ordering water because of the price of drinks when we’re out.

Realistically, what team(s) are even in position to pick up Young and around 50% of that contract? The only suitable trade partners for Texas are Colorado (where the deal has already apparently fallen through once) and the Angels (division opponent, plus they’d be hesitant to pick-up another bloated contract this off-season..right?)
slider32
Zambrano- Cubs, Lowe- Braves, Kuroda- Dodgers all could use Young and these players make similar money.
timmytwoshoezzz
Who would MY replace in Atlanta? Uggla (Not a chance), Chipper (the Atlanta legend, even if his skills are diminishing), Gonzales (traded for him last year), or Freeman (their rookie at first). Or does he play a different position every day? I don’t see a trade to ATL working
slider32
Young goes to first to this year, and to third next year when Chipper retires. If Chipper gets hurt this year Young plays third and Feeman to first. Young is an upgrade over Feeman at first this year and Chipper at third. Plus your moving a bad contract in Lowe with young arms in the system.
Brad426
I doubt the Braves would consider Young an upgrade over Freeman, frankly. And he is most definately not an upgrade over Chipper assuming Chipper is healthy at the moment you are comparing them. And while Lowe is certainly a bad contract, he is currently a better option than the “young arms” that would be moved in to replace him.
davengmusic
It would be a dream to see Carlos Lee in a uniform other than the Astros. Or no uniform at all.

Dude, keep your kinky fantasies to yourself!
Smrtbusnisman04
I hear the Angels are willing to take on DHs with huge contracts
Gumby65
Rosenthal just tweeted that Rangers are increasing their asking price for Young. Let the countdown begin for them to realize that (surprise) they don’t exactly have the leverage with Spring Training right around the corner…
straightuphonestguy
I cannot believe the Rangers at this point in time. They’ve overpaid Young, and now they want to shift their contract ineptitude onto another club and expect quality returns? Truly baffling.
Texas has close to zero leverage in this situation.
BlueSkyLA
True story. Once Young started to make his complaints public, most of the Rangers’ options were foreclosed. Some teams won’t want him for that reason alone. They’ll be lucky to find someone willing to pick up half his contract, let alone get anything meaningful in return.

Start Medlan or Beachy.

Kris Medlen is out until at least August, though I am not even sure what this comment is related to. A reply to something?
