This afternoon, Michael Young reported to Surprise, Arizona for Spring Training and addressed the trade talk surrounding him. Even though he seemed to be in good spirits, the veteran infielder wouldn't say whether or not he'll rescind his trade request, tweets Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Furthermore, the slugger has no plans to talk things over with Jon Daniels. Here's more of what Young had to say:
- Young insisted that he will no longer talk about the trade rumors surrounding him so as to not be a distraction to the club, says Anthony Andro of the Star-Telegram (via Twitter).
- The decision to ask for a trade a few weeks ago had nothing to do with his role as a DH and a utility infielder, writes Richard Durrett of ESPN.com. Despite that, the 34-year-old is still unwilling to talk about what prompted his trade request.

Michael Young reported to… Surprise!

I first read that as surprise…Arizona thinking he was traded to the Diamondbacks without anyone knowing.

“Furthermore, the slugger has no plans to talk things over with Jon Daniels.” Sounds like its going to be near impossible to trade Young now given that none of his 8 teams are interested and he won;t be talking to Daniels… makes it tough to rescind that “no trade” clause.

I don’t think it is that none of the teams are interested in m young, I think they are just not interested in the $48 million that is owed to him. As soon as Texas realizes they need to lower the asking price and eat some salary they’ll find a trade partner. Aging player+ big contract+ requesting trade = eating salary

you’re under the assumption that the Rangers WANT to trade Young, which couldn’t be further from the truth. Eating most of Young’s salary would financially handcuff the team, and the Rangers are not willing to do so just to make Young happy.

Either way they have to pay Young, and they are paying him like a starter but plan to use him as a part time DH and utility infielder which has angered him. It sound to me like they are already handcuffed. The organization should pay him some respect and find a trade partner he has been great for them and deserves it. They won’t have to eat all the contract if they take less in return. I’m a cubs fan and I would love to see the cubs offer Byrd, Jeff Baker & Carlos Silva for M young and chris Davis and a little cash for 2012 & 2013. Byrd would be welcomed back, but I know silva and baker aren’t the best return but baker is a solid utility and silva has only got 1 year left and adds some SP depth that Texas desperately needs, plus it would even out the money in 2011.

I keep saying this & I’ll say it again until it sticks. Texas just lost its best SP over the winter. Wouldn’t you think they would be inclined to find the best #1 available in a trade, even if it means eating most, if not all M.Y.’s salary. Like someone else said, they have to pay him either way, seems like it would make more sense to pay him to start somewhere as opposed to coming off the bench as a super utility man. Get it done Daniels!
Verlander_Will_Save_Us_All
You are not gonna get a “#1” starter for Michael Young at this point in his career.
$3081341
You may not get a Cliff Lee but you’ll certainly do better than Wilson & Lewis I can tell you that. Blanton, Jackson, Zambrano, Shields, all are better options than what they have now (Big Z’s #1 in w/the Cubbies).

Young is worth something like $6-8M tops, and that would be trading him for a bag of baseballs… meaning the Rangers “eat” $8-10M per year remaining on his contract. If they want something of value in return, they need to “eat” even more, and possibly include a decent prospect in return. With Daniels attitude, I just don’t see this happening.
$3081341
Or they could just swap bad contracts (ala Big Z in Chicago or Blanton in Philly) & not have to give up a prospect in return. Like I’ve said, the more Daniels pays, the better return your gonna get, which is why he should pay MY every dime of that contract in return for a TOR SP.

Blanton and Shields better than Wilson and Lewis? I think not.
