If you thought the busy portion of Scott Boras' offseason ended when he found deals for Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon, you were mistaken. The agent has recently added Robinson Cano and, according to Stephen Goff of the Houston Examiner, now represents Michael Bourn.
Bourn, 28, led the National League in stolen bases for the second consective season in 2010, winning his second Gold Glove in center field. He hit .265/.341/.346 in 605 plate appearances to go along with 52 steals in 64 attempts.
Bourn will earn $4.4MM in 2011, his second season as an arbitration eligible player. The former SFX client will be eligible for free agency after 2012. Click here for a list of Boras' clients.

It’s kind of indicative of Boras’ legend, or maybe just my ignorance, that I assumed most of these players already -were- Boras clients. 😛
Andy Ledford
hmm. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like this isn’t boras’ typical client. Not a power guy at all. But he’s young and fast, and if there’s money to be made boras will be there.
WhenMattStairsIsKing
Well, he does represent Julio Borbon, Stephen Drew, and Jacoby Ellsbury. I think any player that wants to maximize $ is a typical Boras client.
MadmanTX 2
He also represents the mediocre and flashes in the pan. Remember Chan Ho Park? Boras does his job for his clients, like a gynecologist with hooks for hands.
Rick Garcia
and now Michael Bourn will forever be an overpaid outfielder

More likely an umemployed one after boras tries that infamous bluff game around his 2nd year of arbitration, Wade laughs at them both and hands Bourne his unconditional release without any further negotians the amount Boras wanted was so hilarious..
This is EXACTLY the wrong type of player Boras should NOT represent.. 1 thing (speed) and 1 only going for him. he can’t hit, strikes out a lot, can’t even buy an extra base hit and not even the best of defensive at that.
WhenMattStairsIsKing
Not every Boras client is a star. We just hear so much about his biggest clients. Still, it’s always sad to hear when he picks up another client.

Um, Michael Bourn is one of the best defensive outfielders in all of baseball, with a strong argument for being THE best. He also has a little bit more power and more hitting ability than you’re giving him credit for. He’s a valuable player who has put up consecutive 4+ WAR seasons.

This Scott Boras fellow sure seems to get a lot of clients. He must be a pretty good agent.
Tom
Anyone else getting really really scared by this new trend?
I hate to hope for this but when he fails to get his clients that big long term (stupidly long term) pay day and has them take a one year deal and maybe a few of them get injured. Maybe just maybe this con artist will lose his leverage.
Guest 7372
Why? Its not my money or yours being spent on every overpaid Boras client
Tom
It indirectly translates into absurd ticket prices which means I can’t go to games cause i’m poor. Going to a game shouldn’t cost me 50 bucks for one seat and parking If i sit in the damn upper deck. and if i’m thirsty i’m going to be out 60 bucks. (<– NY)
Lunchbox45
Newsflash Tom, owners charge what they want for tickets regardless of what they spend on payroll… Jays slashed payroll, you think they are going to cut ticket prices?
Very doubtful..
The owners are still making big money, despite Boras
Tom
Heh yeah, I caught some of those Blu Jays games since i go to school near toronto, i was surprised they charged so much for a ticket. Still never saw such a jump in prices for baseball games after the two New York parks went up. I actually went to Nationals games to see the Mets play last year, albeit the cost of gas totally wrecked my savings when I sat in the Mez, but when i sat in the prime seats I saved like 50 bucks going there.

I can’t wait to see the comparisons to other players and BS he spews… This should be quite entertaining.
Rick Garcia
I think next years all star game should be Boras Clients vs. Everybody Else instead of AL vs NL
You're Killing Me Smalls
Ditto…

Boras has himself a few new clients he’s going to get some nice pay days. Who thinks Cano will get at least 5/100M when he hits free agency, now?
ugotrpk3113
No chance. I could see 15-17, but 20 isn’t happening.
dc21892
He’s one of the top second baseman in the game offensively and defensively. The Yankees like to spend, and Boras is his agent. It’s VERY possible
ugotrpk3113
I’m not sure that a second baseman who has a history of streaky play (both offensively and defensively) warrants that type of money, even for the Yankees.
The Yanks have holes to fill in the OF and SP, I don’t see them breaking the bank. I just don’t, maybe I’m wrong.
Tom
If cano puts up the same numbers he put up last year he might get 7/140 when he hits free agency the way Boras is going.
Lunchbox45
wow, underrate much???
Cano is easily looking at 150+ contract… you’re nuts to assume other wise, and the fact that you categorize him a 2B with streaky play is absurd. I don’t even like the yankees and its just ridiculous. He’s a top 5 middle infielder in the whole league and the best second baseman in the game
ugotrpk3113
How can one ignore the previous years he had? He’s usually around .300, his OBP for that average isn’t fantastic by any means (roughly .350). He’s always been a slow starter (except this year really).
Defensively, he’s average (this year he was decent).
I’m really not underrating him at all. He’s certainly one of the best MI in the game, but he’s certainly not a player who garners a 20 mil per contract. I think a good comparison to use is Carl Crawford’s most recent contract. Cano is probably around that figure, give or take.
I think maybe you are overrating him based on this years performance. I think this year will tell the tale of his future contract.
Lunchbox45
Hold on… wait a sec… he won’t get 20 million, but a good comparison is Crawford most recent contract..
Let me pull out my calculator here..
one second
7 years, 142 million…
hmmm, thats 20.3 million per year…
thanks for helping my point.
ugotrpk3113
First – What the heck is your problem? Why so irritable?
Second – I misremembered the contract. I thought it was 17 mil per. I was wrong, my bad.
Lunchbox45
I’m not irritable, you’re just reading my posts wrong
think sarcastic baseball vince vaughan, not angry pre pubescent prick.
ugotrpk3113
Anyhow, I see more 6 yr 102 mil / 7 yr 115
WhenMattStairsIsKing
Chase Utley makes 7/$85; no way Cano makes nine figures.
Lunchbox45
Chase Utley signed that contract in a different market and thats an extremely team friendly deal for what Utley has done so far.
Cano will easily surpass 100 mil. Easily.
omavricko
Is there any baseball sports agents in the HoF, cus i think there will be after Boras is done
Lunchbox45
bobby orr is in the nhl hall of fame, and is now an agent.
davengmusic
Best of luck to you and your new team at the trading deadline, Mike!
AceGunderson
I’m half-expecting an “Albert Pujols Hires Scott Boras” headline one of these days…
Justin J. Bartz
Oh no! How dare Scott Boras hypnotize poor lil’ Michael Bourn and force him to sign with him! He’s so evil! Somebody has to stop every player who wants to maximize his value from signing with Boras! IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!!111one
I’m going to call his brother-from-another-mother Jason Bourne to put a stop to this Boras fellow.
