Teams are still hunting for pitching even as the free agent pool continues to shrink. The Padres, Cardinals, Pirates and Mets are looking for arms, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com (on Twitter). ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick notes that the Rays and Nationals have not stopped shopping, either (Twitter link).
Two AL East clubs, the Orioles and Yankees have some interest in Freddy Garcia, according to Heyman.
Over in the NL East, the Nationals and Mets have made progress on deals for pitchers today. The Nationals are set to acquire Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs and the Mets are nearing a deal with Chris Young.
I wonder if the Phils are even going to trade Blanton before ST, or maybe not until the deadline. The market is getting thin, but more and more teams are settling in on their rotations as well.
They may end up better served waiting and seeing who gets injured/underperforms.
…and they will continue to search for pitching until the end of time.
News of the day!
Wouldn’t mind the O’s taking a flyer on a veteran such as Garcia but I would rather have Millwood. Millwood eats up innings and didn’t complain about being on a lousy team in the AL East. With Buck in and the end year progression by the O’s starting staff, Millwood could have a respectable year for a team that needs it.
Kawakami is looking for a new home.
Bonderman and SD are a good fit.
Rumor has it that the BoSox are still looking for a lefty to replace George Ruth in the rotation. Might as well run the headline…”Baseball is Round”
Despite Heyman’s tweet, the Padres should be set in pitching. I do like Bonderman though.
In other news the McDonalds continues to sell Big Macs.
the yanks will get a 4th or 5th starter by the deadline in the 2011 season, and the fans will be excited with this starter.
