The Astros announced that they avoided arbitration with Nelson Figueroa, signing the 36-year-old righty to a one-year deal worth $900K plus incentives. He posted a 3.22 ERA with 7.8 K/9 and 3.4 BB/9 in 67 innings as a swingman last year.
After avoiding arbitration with Humberto Quintero yesterday, the Astros now have six remaining arbitration eligible players: Hunter Pence, Michael Bourn, Matt Lindstrom, Jeff Keppinger, Wandy Rodriguez, and Clint Barmes.
Good. Glad for Figgy. Never gets credit for what he does. He’s a great guy and a good pitcher.
The credit he gets for what he does is why he’s doing a tour of the NL. It would also help if he would refrain from throwing his various teams under the bus.
Great feel-good story for New Yorkers, though…unless he happens to be on your team.
But he was on our team Innie and he wasn’t THAT bad
But he forgot one essential thing: Never throw the team you’re playing on under the bus. Leave that to the professionals – the FANS!! 😀
You and I
much better contract for a 5/long guy than the brian moehler contract from last year. buys some time for jordan lyles.
If the Astros are lucky, this deal will be viewed as a waste by the end of the year. Meaning, if Lyles can do what he’s supposed to do, then Nelson won’t really be needed.
