Javier Vazquez has told associates that he’d like to pitch for the Marlins, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The right-hander would like to return to the National League and Florida has added appeal, since Miami is relatively close to Puerto Rico, his home country.
Vazquez has become the Marlins’ top pitching target, but they may not be able to afford him. Rodriguez hears that Vazquez has received some offers that could price him out of the Marlins’ grasp. After struggling through the 2010 season, Vazquez wasn’t expecting to see offers like the ones he’s getting, though it's unclear what those offers actually look like.
DempseyK
they are talking around 11 mill per year for Pavano, yet they cant afford Vasquez? What types of offers is he getting?

NOTE to Ben N-S: Puerto Rico is not a country.
CJ Montiel
Thank you! I was about to write that but figured people wouldn’t get it.

get him, now.

Trade Gabby Sanchez and Ricky Nolasco for Justin Upton. and Sign Vazquez to replace nolasco. HE DOES GREAT IN THE NL EAST!
$1529282
Why did you post this as two different names…? And why do you think Sanchez and Nolasco would get anything but laughter from Kevin Towers?
Add four players to that deal and maybe then you’ll get Upton. Yesterday’s “speculation” from a GM that Morrison and Nolasco would get it done is absolutely laughable.
marlinsfanatic
I don’t see a problem with Nolasco and Gaby but that will not even come close to getting him. I’m guessing Nolasco, Gaby, Kyle Skipworth and Chad James and maybe one more prospect. Dbacks get a good Starter and solid all around 1B and two of the Marlins top prospects.
$1529282
I think you have to take out Sanchez and add in Morrison, even in that package, unless Arizona specifically likes Gaby better for some reason.
jwsox
not laughable at all, the dbacks gm said he wants to win the deal…in other words he wants to be able to say “well if i turn this deal down ill get fired” considering he does not have to trade him it makes sense to get as much as possible..

It also creates the illusion that there are more than one Marlins fan out there.

You’re old enough to have a son who’s old enough to post on here… and you still type like a 13-year-old, make insults like a 9-year-old, and don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re”?
I feel bad for you son.
moonraker45
that was kinda mean, but super hilarious.

Yeah, Nolasco and Sanchez isn’t landing the Marlins Justin Upton. BJ Upton, but not the younger brother.
Jason J
Nolasco Sanchez Skipworth and a prospect would sure as hell get it done
$1529282
Nope. Try again.
The_Silver_Stacker
Why doesn’t Vazquez just finish his career playing in Puerto Rico if he wants to be there so much?
junior ballbag
Bitter Yankees fan?
The_Silver_Stacker
What is their to be bitter about? The guy was crap and he parted ways
Just_MLB
probably cuz vasquez has about another 15-20 million dollars to make before he retires…
damn if ur mad about javy i can imagine how u feel about AJ !
BaseballFanatic0707
If Javier Vazquez gets multi-million dollars and/or multi-million years, then shame on that GM.
It isn’t a guarantee he will return to his form of 2 years ago if he returns to the NL. He should not be seeing grand offers at all.
$1529282
So you think Vazquez should sign a minor league deal because of one bad season?
Mel
Yeah, pretty thin market. Him getting a multi-year offer shouldn’t be all that surprising, he’s an innings eater that almost never gets hurt, and he’s always been better in the NL.
But I’d be worried about his dip in velocity…
junior ballbag
I feel he’s a candidate for a one year deal, worth something like 10 million. This guy has been a relatively consistent pitcher his entire career, and one bad year isn’t going to hurt him as much as you imply.
baseballz
10 million ? After last year and his own admissions that his arm is having serious problem? I would bet Vasquez is going to have rotator cuff surgery before next season is over guarenteed. His velocity drop and command problems are just to blatent indicators that something is seriously wrong. I hope im wrong and the Marlins sign him, but hopefully they reduce their risk by offering a more incentive laden contract.
MetsEventually
Gah…I was hoping the Mets would make a pitch for Vazquez…fly ball pitcher in Citi field and in the NL East would be real helpful.
Kaiser_Wilhelm_II
Come on, Cardinals should be all over this………….
Or Brandon Webb…………..
Get it done Mo.
chaifetz10
For what purpose? 6th starter? If he wants a deal more than 5 mil, the Cardinals would not have a spot for him right off the bat.
Kaiser_Wilhelm_II
Loshe-Replacement (wishful thinking.)
$1529282
Lohse and that contract aren’t going anywhere…
Kaiser_Wilhelm_II
^ except to the bullpen/DL
Jason J
I really hope the marlins can get it done. 3yrs 25 mil should get it dont i think

thats waht hes gonna end up getting
Ian_Smell
But everything else is OK.
John
He can do whatever he wants to do so long as I don’t see him in pinstripes ever again. He can go pitch in Zimbabwe for all I care.
Jason J
why would the d backs not take nolasco and sanchez? tahst better than any other offer they would get…ellsbury and bard aint happening.
Mel
Because Nolasco would likely get hammered in that park and doesn’t have much time left on his deal and Sanchez is basically a right-handed Adam LaRoche with worse defense….
WrigleyTerror37
But Sanchez is still young and i belive under control for about 3 more years? and hes right handed so maybe he can platoon with B.Allen if Arizona doesn’t sign Paul Ko, or another 1st Base man.
NL_East_Rivalry
Upton is under control for 5 more years and doesn’t have to platoon.
WrigleyTerror37
I was talking about Sanchez. sorry i was un clear.
WrigleyTerror37

$1529282
So they take two years of Nolasco and a platoon first baseman for one of the best young outfielders in the game who’s locked up for the next five years at just $49M?
What about that scenario makes any sense?
WrigleyTerror37
Acorrding to the artical and what the marlin fans are saying on this; That thats what Towers was asking for. (or somthing close). But what other people have pointed out that this would have to be the starting point, with prospects involved.

There’s nothing wrong with those two players, but with what you want, you’re going to have to give up quite a bit more than you seem to think. I would get on Tony’s account and respond negatively to this remark.

Ben — Puerto Rico is not a country; it is part of the United States.
NL_East_Rivalry
I bet you think the Philippines are apart of the US too, huh? Guam? Alaska? ha!
NL_East_Rivalry
Sorry, was bored.
foxtown
I can see that you’re trying to be sarcastic but the Philippines actually aren’t part of the US anymore. They’ve been independent since 1946.
NL_East_Rivalry
I know, but the list looked a bit too short without them.

WrigleyTerror37
If he signs it would be a great deal on both sides. Then marlins need to fill some more holes… Marlin fans whats ur opinion on trading Nuez?? And what would u want in return?
elscorcho the marlin
i think we used him wrong last year, and we should hang on to him. our bullpen looks great with nunez in it. with him gone, we still need to add.
WrigleyTerror37
Thats what i was thinking. The Marlins could keep Nuez and aquire a couple of pices threw FA. Correct me if im wrong but the marlins look like this so far…
C J.Buck, J.Baker
1b G.Sanchez, L.Morrison
2b/3b O.Infante/C.Coghlan
SS Hanly Ramirez
OF M.Stantion
OF E.Bonifacio
OFL.Morrison
And for Rotaion
J.Johnson
R.Nolasco
A.Sanchez
C.Volstad
A.Sanabia
Now say they Aquirre J.Vasquez and a Outfielder lets say R.Ankil (he might fit IMO)
Then E.Bonifacio becomes a Super Utillity. And posability A.Sanabia to the pen.
Then in my opinion the Marlens will be set. With there pen 2.
elscorcho the marlin
they are still saying dominquez is in the mix for third. so, it would be gaby at first, infante at second, hanley, and dominguez to complete the infield with buck catching. they are either thinking coghlan or boni in center so far, depending on dominguez, with stanton and morrison in the corners.
if we get vasquez or pavano, i would assume sanabia goes to the pen as he has been there in the minors before.
WrigleyTerror37
So depending on Dominguez will deside some of the future trades. I think there set IMO. But what do you think they need or nothing at all? How do you like there Pen?
elscorcho the marlin
i just think they need a starting pitcher to fill out their rotation. it scares me that coghlan is out in cf, if that happens, but his bat is needed. a trade off for lack of cf defense i suppose. however, the defense everywhere else is improved.

too much experience in the closing role to trade him I believe. Then again, I’m not a Marlins fan.

Who would ever want to pitch for Florida?
Javier Alberto
hey bluejayz fan who would want to pitch for your team check the past seasons with team has a better record the jays or the fish
lazerball
not sure if serious
BlueJays45
A) We had a better record than you last season…
B) Toronto had one of the best pitching staffs last season in the AL considering they had the lowest payroll in the rotation in the league.
C) You guys have like 1000 fans at your games
D) its BlueJays45
MisterMarlin
A) How many rings have the Blue Jays won in the last 15 years? The Marlins have won two.
B) The Marlins have absolute studs coming up (Stanton, etc) to play alongside the best shortstop in the game
C) Josh Johnson had the lowest ERA in the NL last year
D) We’re not in the AL East!
E) We’re in Miami and not Toronto!
I wouldn’t be talking smack when you can’t get past fourht place in your own division, ever! You haven’t even made the playoffs since we came into the league and we’ve won two rings since then! So why are you talking garbage?

JUSTIN UPTON FOR GABBY SANCHEZ, RICKY NOLASCO AND A PROSPECT OR TWO WOULD GET THE DEAL DONE. ESPECIALLY IF THE D BACKS TRADE REYNOLDS…WHICH I THINK THEY WILL….SO GABBY WOULD PLAY 3RD…….I THINK THIS WOULD BE GREAT FOR BOTH SIDES.
elscorcho the marlin
bro, you have typed the same bleeping thing in 10 different spots. stop.
Javier Alberto
we dont need upton he could go to the yankees or red sox
elscorcho the marlin
yeah, i agree. i think it ludicrous to strip a thin team of their talent for one player that is more about potential than proven thus far.
freedonin2012
I thought Cashman was going to offer him either a 20 year, $20 million a year contract to comeback to the yankees or a 30 year, $1 trillion contract to stay the f-out of New York
jonathan kramer
yankees should offer him arbitration and get a draft pick
Slopeboy
He would accept and then they’re jammed

Edwin Rodriguez just said on 790 AM that he met with Javier Vasquez in Puerto Rico earlier today.
